Do we know if Poe is Corelian? Most PS 9 pilots are IIRC. This does seem important.
On that note, I liked his character and flying in the movie.

Because Luke is PS 8.
Also, is PS 8 not ******* high enough for you? Can we have less Acewing please, thanks.
Luke should have been PS 7 at best. Maybe with the ability "All friendly ships at range one treat all hits against them as crits."
Seriously, Luke was a mediocre pilot that got everyone near him, including his own gunners/astromechs, killed.
The real reason the Death Stars were destroyed: They got too close to Luke. It would have happened even if he was trying to defend them ![]()

He's Yavinian (sp?) His folks raised him on Yavin 4. He's a rebel brat - born and raised in the Rebellion. Mom's a fly girl, dad's a ground pounder - a true starship trooper
.
Poe would be great at ps9
To be fair on the Wedge/Luke vs Poe argument, Poe's got the power of the Green side, while the other two were actually just filming a game of X-Wing Minis.

I'll just leave this here...
Apparently I got drunk last night and was upset that I couldn't go see the movie. I felt that in recompense we ought to "go pick up a Hispanic looking x-wing pilot". My wife agreed this morning that we shouldn't let me drink so much gin...
Perhaps the more important revelation is that if Poe isn't PS 9 then this implies that The Resistance and First Order will never be separated out into completely independent factions, since if they were, Poe would very likely be one of The Resistance's two PS 9 pilots.

Yeah it seems unlikely they will split.
Episode 7 spoilers:
There's just not a lot of ships in 7 to pull from, we might get 3 more (resistance and Kylo's shuttles, TIE/sf). Baring new ships the in books that come with good art to pull from, we won't see any new ones until episode 8, two YEARS from now. Definitely not enough to make 2 new competitive factions from.
Poe wasn't super amazing though. He definitely didn't outfly Wedge or Han. PS8 is legendary pilots. PS9 are Gods among men..
You don't get PS for GL? ****, I thought that's how it worked.
I guess I'm like PS4 or 5 then...
... but if PS did take into account GL, then Poe would be at native PS10.
Edited by DarkcloakIt seemed like if anyone in that movie ends up as a PS9 it will be Rey.
Leaves the door open for a "Veteran" version of Poe at PS9 when FFG officially runs out of ideas.

I would not be terribly surprised to see her flying a T-70 or Neo E-wing next film.
Yeah, Luke just wasn't (at least after IV) the Force Ace archetype whereas Poe is most definitely EU Wedge Reborn.

Luke isn't a good pilot. R2-D2 is. In fact, it's really amazing what R2 can accomplish with how badly Luke (and Anakin) try to mess stuff up... Anakin learned from R2-D2 how to pilot and combined with his sithyness and advanced tech became THE ace pilot. Luke, not so much, it was all R2.
I... was actually thinking this in the theatre today. The thing is that while Wedge might have a higher PS, Poe has a way better pilot ability and fighter.
Poe is able to outfly Wedge in-game.
Poe has Boost and BB-8.
Wedge has +1 PS, meaning that Poe doesn't do so easily, but Poe still wins that fight.
A future upgrade option....X-Wing pilots on T-70? Maybe 1 less PS for being so OLD. Except maybe Garven will get a EPT?

Well he did improve as well, he at least managed to LAND on Dagobah the second time
.
Seriously though, he killed a Death Star while being shot at by his ace pilot sith lord dad the first time he flew in an X-wing, maybe his first time flying in combat, or in space at all. Could that be all the force? Sure, but are we really suggesting that as he trained in the force that wouldn't help his piloting ability at all? We don't see his X-wing combat piloting skills after that, so it's hard to say he's not better. Also, R2 did repair some minor damage and take a hit (which may have otherwise missed entirely), but I didn't see him help Luke pilot anything ever, in fact we have at least one instance where he refused to hand over control to R2.
edit: Forgot my point, which is skill 8 is definitely deserved. Vader might have had him without Han's interference, so yeah, a smidgen lower than Vader seems right to me.
(Totally irrelevant anymore since it's been erased, but in at least one EU book I read, he was a very good x-wing pilot, maybe only bested by Wedge and the other skill 9 aces)
Edited by imprezagoatee"You're good Corran, but you're no Luke Skywalker". I think that's pretty much the first line in the first X-wing novel.
Also, Poe is one hell of a pilot.

Well by I,Jedi he's an unstoppable Newtype of Gary Stu proportions, so compared to Luke, I dunno.
Jaina definitely takes after her grandfather in being a Force Ace moreso than Luke did.
I just made a topic about Movie Poe and Game Poe, then I saw this topic..... oh well.

It's a faction parity thing:
Wedge, Han
Vader, Fel
Awesome McCoolname, Dengar
VI is already pretty much auto-include on most of those barring Fel, no need to upset the balance further by adding more PS 9s.
PS1 little to none battles survived
PS2 seen some things
PS3 Veteran pilot
PS4 Cool Red-squadron-level-pilots
PS5 Ace
PS6 Elite forces
PS7 Badass
PS8 Force users, epic 'seen it all" pilots go here
PS9 High-end one-of-a-billion Ace
Nope, the two=per=faction quota for Super-PS9-Aces is good.
the game already sees more freaky PS7+ than 1-4 grunts

I'd have to amend the PS 7+
PS 7 - creme de la creme, pinnacle of their craft and about as skill a pilot as you could ever hope to find
PS 8 - plot armor
PS 9 - "all too easy..."

perfect, except I would sat the 6 is an Ace, not the 5.
Watching the film a few times I think what gets him quite far is not just his pilot skills but the fact he never seems to miss. Meaning he can't quite fly to a high as quality as some other ace pilots but can just shoot himself out of any trouble. His ability makes sense.
Maarek Stele is a force user and one of the greatest pilots the galaxy has ever known, on pc, and he's only PS 7.
I never saw Poe D destroy 3 Calamari cruisers in a row with a single Tie Defender.
