Does it affect the game in any way?

Good point..

As a player ho depends 125% of online retailers I must know how this is going to affect me..

It affects certain sellers. Sounds like they are going to start putting limits on price reductions and the like of on-line retailers. It may also attempt to squeeze out some of the fat in this regard by limiting their distribution network for some products while opening new doors for others.

Hard to say how this will effect anyone until we see what kind of squeeze is truly put on the various online retailers. As someone who never plays in stores and relies pretty much exclusively on online sellers (it's a 40ish minute drive to just buy product in a store, and I am a parent who has a very limited budget for plastic toy spaceships), this is a possible concern for me. I buy almost everything from Miniature Marketplace or Amazon. If that becomes prohibitive, then I simply stop buying. Hopefully it doesn't come to that!

I didn't have a FLGS to buy from until a few months ago now. Anything affecting online sales is troubling to me still. But unless their end game is to increase product price, you still will have people selling at closer to invoice price than MSRP. Ultimately it's just less the reseller makes for themselves.

Sounds like they are going to offer more favorable terms to FLGS over purely online retailers. Which may not be a bad thing as it might get business back into the stores. Unless you are one of the poor lost souls who dont live near to a reputable distributor of plastic crack. I was one of those poor lost souls. So I can commiserate.

Overall it does sound like it will push the price of stuff up a little as the FLGS price will become 'normal', whilst the online retailers will have to charge more.

Yes this has been a huge problem. We were trying to start a tabletop gaming scene in my home country. Something that hasn't been done in a proper way. Got partnered with a brick and mortar videogame/hardware store, and even demoed to a couple of thousand people (who were super into it). And then this news hits, and well getting FFG stuff is really difficult. We would buy the stuff at retail, but because shipping is ridiculously expensive (doubles the price of a boardgame), it's nowhere near feasable.

It's a shame, really. I love FFG, and they have really attractive IPs...

Well if this makes things cheaper and better for local brick and mortar it will likely be a good thing for all of us not forced to depend on online retail. And if the status quo remains with regards to online retail this is "nothing to see here, move along."

They're just bummed out because they missed out on that CR90 sale.

As long as they don't screw over FLGS stores, as someone else said [Edited because I thought they said they were going to favor more online interactions compared to FLGS]

"Canadian Distribution is Unaffected."

That's a Shame.

I was hoping for some competition to drive prices down here.

I'm glad brick and mortar will be getting more support. I'm not a fan of the mass discount online retailers.

They are playing it exactly like the big Wargaming demon played a few years ago...

It's a total no go move...

If you want to improve the local store sells against online, that's not the way...

I don't know about a no go move. Currently it really only affects America from what I can see which is ok. It sucks for those who don't have areas nearby but depending on how they handle it they maybe as bad as the game company that shall not be named.

So it's kills me and all my gaming group...

Hopefully they don't mess up the pricing online but rather have better margins for local game shops.

If not, they may lose a good chunk of my business as I buy my purchases online and smaller purchases at the local game shop.

wizkids just did the same thing this year

Really, it won't have a huge effect.

Those who rely on Online Sales will still rely on online sales.

Those retailers who were using a different distributor will have to make an honest choice about wether they want to keep selling and thus, switch that portion to a new distributor, or give up selling FFG, which, honestly, the vast, vast majority will switch. The thing about the US, where these changes are made, is there is already distributor choice, and this is a narrowing of those choices...

Outside of the US, there are exclusive distribution rights to certain countries. These do not change. Even in Canada, where Asmodee is HQ'd, the exclusive distributor will still be Lion Rampant.

Its a narrowing, a consolidation, and its a completely normal part of supply chain business. If anything, it can narrow costs and increase supply on the FFG end of things by maintaining fewer supply connections, and that in itself can lead to a more refined and more efficient chain.

I don't see it as a very big deal at all. But then, I'm not in the US, and still subject to the whims of an exclusive international distribution chain - so I already have it worse than the people who are affected by this...

It is a definite jealous bias towards "Oh, Quit your Whining, you don't know how good you have it, still..." :D And I mean no offense, only jest.

Logistics is the term you are looking for. ^_^

Believe it or not, that was the term I was trying not to use... :D

I've been told I use too many military terms, acronyms and concepts in my daily life, and instead, I'm trying to limit myself - even if I do repeat myself incessantly to do so...

It is still a business term. Logistical supply and demand is vital to the survival of not only a military but a business ^_^

Interesting. I live in the UK, so not sure this will have any impact here.

However, I find the statement around supporting FLGS really insightful. FFG have been successful by not just making games, but creating communities around those games. How much less fun would Armada be without this forum, tournaments and FLGS game nights? Just a lot of pretty models sitting on shelves at home.

It is the community that makes the game great.
