Sorry but Darth Maul alone makes TPM better than AOTC. Other than that I can get on board.
I am not fond of Darth Maul in TPM... Also, the lightsabre ballet scene is really off putting to me.
I liked him in the Clone Wars though.
A super pointless nerd debate? Sign me up.
Empire

Force Awakens (I'm optimistic but won't see it until after work today)

Return Of The Jedi
Empire Strikes Back*
The Force Awakens
Revenge Of The Sith
The Phantom Menace
Attack Of The Clones
Haven't see much Clone Wars, no Rebels and I hardly remember the Ewok movies.
*I can see it is the best movie. But I saw it as a kid in the 90s when I ranked Star Wars movies by how many aliens I saw. Since it doesn't have a cantina or Jabba's Palace this movie lacked a bit in that department. And it stuck when it came to emotional attachment.

Maul is good, but I think Jango trumps him. AOTC over TPM in my book.
I might even put TFA over ESB.
For me it's the OT (in order) then Force Awakens and then the PT (in any order you want).
Return of the Jedi
Empire Strikes Back
Revenge of the Sith
The Force Awakens
A New Hope
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menace
This ranking is VERY subjective, and subject to change upon a second viewing of E7, but here we go.
Empire Strikes Back
New Hope
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
Force Awakens
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace
Also, for the record - I like them all*. And not in a begrudging "well, its Star Wars, so I guess I'll like it" sort of way. I genuinely like Clones and TPM right along side with Empire and New Hope.
*Again more viewings are needed for TFA before final judgement.
Empire Strikes back.
Force Awakens
A new hope/Revenge of the Sith/Return of the Jedi. (fluctuates on mood)
Attack of the clones
Phantom Mence.
The empire strikes back was such a powerful movie that it really just sits up there with the best of them.
My ranking:
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Force Awakens
A New Hope
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
I won't even list Phantom Menace. It doesn't count. I don't own it, don't watch it, and it doesn't even contribute anything to the story arc.
- all three original films (gave me my love of films and games; each of them has something worthwhile in it)
- Force Awakens (it was okay, and future instalments might be more than okay when they start to develop their own narrative)
- Phantom Menace (it was just a fairly bad film, it didn't hurt me or ruin any of my memories)
- Attack of the Clones (just plain bad; this is hurting a bit now)
- Revenge of the Sith (felt like a personal desecration of my childhood)

7 and 6 are close for me, but TFA takes the lead by being the opening of a new chapter. It gets the edge by BECOMING so much more as the next 2 in this trilogy come out.
And the gap between 6 and 3 is quite enormous, to be fair

A New Hope – The Force Awakens (I am torn which is #2 and which is #3. The future will tell)

Loved :
A New Hope (best at introducing you into Star Wars, it's what made me love the franchise)
Empire Strikes Back (best writing, perfect sequel to ANH, as they tried something new rather than repeated the same story)
Really Liked :
Return of the Jedi (I could have done without the Ewoks, but the scenes with Luke and Vader are some of the strongest in the saga and I like Jabba's palace)
Force Awakens (Will have to give it time on whether or not it was better than Sith, at first watch it's way better, but I will have to watch it a few times to really get an opinion on it, I could like it better than Jedi once I watch it a few times)
Kinda Liked :
Revenge of the Sith ("Best" prequel movie, ruined by the "The Greatest Love Story Ever Told" and general wooden acting from Hayden Christensen, the Clone Wars TV show portrayed Anakin better than that movie ever did)
Disliked :
Phantom Menace (Awful, bad, dull, nonsensical, pointless, poorly written, etc. etc. etc.)
Ugh :
Attack of the Clones (Some how worse than Phantom Menace, they learned nothing (which makes it worse in my eyes) and made a movie that was just as bad plus added plastic CGI clonetroopers that looked like a video game, though, I did like some of the detective Obi-Wan stuff.)

Heck, I may even throw in some Star Trek movies before the prequels, and not even the ones I particularly liked, either
I quite liked the prequels. If by magic wand I could remove Jar Jar, Midoclorians, Hayden Christensen, Vader going "nooo" and Padme dying of a broken heart, I think they'd be great.
Not sure about TFA. Filming and acting were great. Story was poor - just a re-hashed New Hope - I didn't think it took the 9 part saga anywhere. Music was a bit boring too.
I put Attack of the Clones at the top of the list of prequels simply because it has that big battle scene at the end. Which is the only part out of all the prequels that I'd actually want to watch again.

Definitely. The Obi-Wan/ Jango showdown alone (including the space battle) puts AotC over TPM, not to mention TPM is further dragged down by midichlorians, Jar Jar at his worst and Jake Lloyd's far worse portrayal of Anakin than even Hayden Christiansen.

The Force Awakens (this one is pretty equal to RotJ, TBH)
Prequels...I dunno. They are all pretty awful in their own special ways. Attack of the clones is perhaps the least irritating, but RotS/PM are bad in very different ways...I find it difficult to say who's the worst. Perhaps RotS for its horrid wrap-up.
4 (nothing beats the original)
