Btw, who is the guy on the left? He looks awesome and cool at once. Would like to see him as the new scum villain (such as Jabba in OT).
He's the boy toy of the woman on the right. He's the beauty, she's the brain- and muscle.

I have only two nerdy nitpicks with the whole movie.
1. Han has never in the last 40ish years of being Chewie's best friend ever fired his gun before?
2. Why is Rey the one to hug it out with Leia when they get back at the end of the movie? They've never met each other before. I get that her husband just died, but why would she turn to this complete stranger for consolation in that moment?
Everything else about the movie was awesome.
I fully expect that, given that he was a 50ft hologram, Snoak is going to be completely different in person. My current theory is a Dark Side member of Yoda's race.
I normally accept the fact that everyone has an opinion on everything. And that's fine. Different perspectives make the world interesting. However, after 1 prescreening, and two more viewings, I've made my final decision. Anyone who doesnt agree this movie is amazing is either simply not a Star Wars fan, or they love being the voice of opposition, aka trolls and hipsters. The door is over there.
Very adult of you.

I'd vote for phasma's seemingly out of character surrender as a nitpick too.
Always nice to see Harrison Ford do his thing on the big screen.
As for the rest? Not really clear on why I should care.
I know Disney is capable of making Star Wars character that I care about - Rebels is brilliant.
But the TFA crew? Let's see.
WhatsHerName is cute, mysterious, arbitrarily puissant and omnicompetent. Little personality, less character.
Black Guy is utterly terrified of lots of things (monsters, stormtroopers, etc) but willing to ignore this personality-defining trait entirely because he thinks WhatsHerName is hot. Not believable.
Poe is a heroic badass who we get to know for all of five minutes.
Not the worst, but lots of room for improvement.
I like this game.
Let's see, ANH crew:
SnivelingKid who shrugs of his dead family like every emo wishes they could and suddenly can block lasers with a laser sword with magic. Totally unbelievable.
SnarkyPirateDude who needs to get paid for some deal we don't know or care about. Tries to steal SnivelingKid's girl and for no good reason risks the money he actually cares about to do the lame "save the day" cliche at the end
PrincessBuns is cute, but a little to competent for me to be comfortable with.
Not the worst, but lots of room for improvement.
If they had named Kylo Jaden instead of Ben I would have been happy.
Almost walked out when Han called out "Ben" to him.
I brood, simply because every piece of literature I read from 2nd to 10th grade is now no longer cannon, essentially a large portion of my childhood "never happened".
Also salty about the mandalorian banner about that one chick's bar, not sure why it was there.
Aside from the 2 above things I enjoyed the movie, trash compactor/garbage chute line was great.
In a certain context, that is vaguely racist.I dubbed Fin the Pooper Trooper.
Humorously and unintentionally so however.
Oh my! Lol..... Please , not intended that way. Of course in refference to his sanitation job. But still... oops.
I feel myself craving to go see it again. Im starting to believe, in my own opion, that 7 was a catch up for anyone who hasnt seen the originals. And I feel that Harrison Fords injury may have played in the hurried feeling I get in the movie. That they filmed all the sceines he wasnt in the filled in the gaps once he was well enough and then had to meet deadlines. Again just my thoughts.
Im excited now, finally, after digesting it for almost a week that we are going to see a whole new universe for Star Wars.
Edited by CrosteAlso salty about the mandalorian banner about that one chick's bar, not sure why it was there.
500 years ago, in her pirate days, Maz stole the entire Mandalorian fleet. She's kept the one banner over her bar as a trophy.
It wasn't prequels bad but it also fell a long way from being good and never approached great had this not been set in the star wars universe no one would much care about it or remember it in a month.
This is a weird thing to say, and there are two ways to respond to it.
A: Well, it's way better than Transformers, and that (re-)launched a franchise juggernaut. It's way better than the first Captain America or Thor, it's at least as good as Iron Man. If Disney were trying to launch a whole new franchise with a film of this caliber, it'd work.
B: If it weren't a Star Wars movie it would be completely different and so the claim is meaningless. It's only a (soft) remake of A New Hope because it's a Star Wars movie. If they weren't simultaneously trying to create a sequel to a beloved trilogy and reassure fans that no, really, we get what you love about Star Wars...yeah, it wouldn't be the same movie. At all.
I brood, simply because every piece of literature I read from 2nd to 10th grade is now no longer cannon, essentially a large portion of my childhood "never happened".
It's still the truth, from a certain point of view.
If someone asks you what happened to the EU, you can now answer: It's true, all of it.
Centrepoint Station? Starkiller Base
Jacen falls to the dark? Kylo Ren
Jaina and Anakin? Merged to become Rey
Kyp Durron of Sun Crusher fame? Kylo Ren
Luke's Jedi Academy? It's there, including the failure.
The deserting stormtrooper from Tales of the Mos Eisly Cantina? Hi FN-2187!
Missing pieces of a galactic map? I'm sure there were some stories there (when Luke was looking for his mother perhaps?). Gotcha covered!
And that's just part of the first movie, now that Hosnian has been destroyed it could well be that the Republic will declare a full scale war, opening room for the Truce at Bakura, new ships, black fleets and more.
Are that many people really shocked Han died? Ford only did the movie because Han was dying.
I'm a huge fan of the music of Star Wars. I wouldn't say the score was bad. I would say that it was vastly under utilized. JJ must have turned it down.
Here's my nit picks that annoyed me.
How quickly the first order and resistance got to Maz's after getting commed. JJ really doesn't understand the concept of space and time.
Which leads to the part where they could see the weapons blast from Maz's. Wouldn't the trail travel at the speed of light? Which means it would take a while to reach places.
Phasma turning the shields off. What a let down of a character.
The octopus scene was beyond pointless aside from finding a reason to get Chewy blasted.

A certain point of view? Um....no. I don't follow you at all. I'm actually dumbfounded on how to respond to that reasoning. So from that movie someone in the galaxy would believe that Han & Leia had three children?
7. How is it that Finn and Rey just seemed to know how to use a lightsaber so efficiently. Really. Even Luke had to have training.
Well, Finn was a stormtrooper and Rey was proficient with her staff. So even though they'd never used a lightsaber, they were both probably experienced melee combatants. Which is more than Luke ever was.

Not at all, but it's early in the morning, I can understand your confuzzlement.
Elements from the EU have been repolished, retooled, taken apart and put back in a slightly different way.
So Jacen, excellent duelist, great at telekinesis (freezing the movement of molecules for instance) and force speed, has (as far as I can tell) been merged with Kyp Durron (who could use the force to render a lightsaber useless).
Meanwhile, the great pilot Jaina and mechanic Anakin have been merged into Rey.
So the EU is right there, under our very noses.

I think any similarity to EU content is just coincidence. I don't believe any of the writers have much, if any, knowledge of or interest in the EU. One of the reasons they ditched it.
However I got the feeling that even content from 1-3 and the TV shows have been pretty much ignored as well in TFA.

The reason they ditched it was because it was an unholy mess of contracdictions, crap, garbage and the occaisional gem.
So the brand decided to put it in a cupboard, to be taken out and admired once in a while and start over. And they did say they would take what was worth salvaging and bring it back in one form or another.
Coincidence? I think not, too many similarities.
I have no idea if anyone has posted this complaint and I'm not going to scroll through 26 pages to find out so I'll whine about it now...
Why did they get rid of mass shadows? You can now travel in light speed right up to planets and the like. Does this mean my beautiful Interdictors are dead?

You can get close, but not through?
Interdictors do exist though.
From my review many pages ago ...
3) And what's with that planet laser anyways? This is going to sound nerd-nitpicky, but my inner scientist was screaming quietly (why isn't the atmosphere igniting? why is there still snow on the ground? how did the laser emission fragment post launch? ). Not a huge deal but it bothered me.
The Nerdist did a bit on the physics behind the Starskiller base:
870 million trillion trillion trillion Joules is a gargantuan amount of energy, more than a few supernovas’ worth. But is that enough to destroy a planet, let alone five? The amount of energy required to destroy a planet has already been answered – nerds wanted to know what it would take to destroy Alderaan after the first Star Wars film came out. That figure, based on how much gravitational glue a planet takes to keep together, is around 2 x 10^32 Joules.
Dividing the two values, if Starkiller Base is draining all of a star’s fuel and fusing it for nefarious purposes, the new weapon could handily destroy five Alderaan-sized planets. It could take out four trillion planets at once — every planet in the galaxy.
And while I'm thinking about it -- wouldn't it have been more awesome if the Star Killer had ... well ... destroyed a star, instead? Improvements: 1) not as retread as the intellectually lazy "like the old death star, but bigger, and can destroy multiple planets at the same time", and 2) if the screenwriters had taken my suggestion to make giant hologram Snoke and actual giant Snoke, then giant Snoke could have delivered a witty evil villain line ("Welcome to the dark side?" ; "Allow me to show you the real power of the dark side?" ... ) as the billions of residents of multiple planets watched in horror as their sun was snuffed out and Darkness descended on their system....
Edited by sozinOverall I enjoyed it. There were a few things that didn't make sense to me.
Rey was never trained in the force but could read Ren's mind, know that the force could be used to control minds, and control the mind of a stormtrooper.
What is up with R2D2? He switched off, but then just happened to switch on and have a nearly complete map?
Ren has force ability to stop blaster shots, but can't force grab his lightsaber from the snow?

I would have enjoyed that more. Make it like a huge Sun Crusher without the invulnerability.

Wonderful the ways of the Force are.
If the Force wants to have a new Jedi all of a sudden - it just happens. Its what the Awakening is about.
What happened inbetween 6 and 7:The Alliance restored the Republic. Leia started the Resistence to deal with the FO because the Republic isn't.
First Order replaced the Empire and is now ready to strike the Republic with a super weapon they have built.
They also indoctrinate babies and turn them into soldiers.
There was a big battle at Jakku, at least as big as Endor because the Empire lost multiple star destroyers including an SSD.
Luke went looking for the first Jedi temple and starting training new Jedi
Han Solo and Leia had a kid, He betrayed his uncle and killed the new Jedi with the Knights of Ren who work for Snoke and the FO. And Luke went into hiding and left a map behind.
Someone left Rey on the worst planet in the Galaxy.
The falcon was stolen several times until it ended up on Jakku. In the mean time Solo kept smuggling. He also hung out with Maz
That's all from the movie. They had to introduce a lot of new characters and estaish a good bit of history. They have two more movies to answer more questions. We will see what Snoke is up to and where he comes from, who Rey's parents are and all the other things we are wondering about.
OK....it actually helps to have someone write it down like that as it was hard to process it from seeing it one time.
So....what's the whole deal with the Resistance? I mean, why not the Republic forces? Why do they have to have a separate armed force that they pay for anyways? Who is the Republic? Surely more than 5 planets in one system, right? Where does the Resistance stand with those 5 systems gone?
How did the First Order form? When did the Rebels stop fighting the Empire? How much of the universe is in either hands? What's the current balance of power? No idea!
Who the heck is Snoke? Is he Sith?
I also get that Kylo Ren was a Jedi pupil and he helped destroy the new Jedi. He renamed himself after the Knights of Ren. Who are these knights? Where did you get that they helped in the destruction of the Jedi? I thought it was just mentioned that Kylo was named after them, but never mentioned anything else about them. Are they even a current organization? Did they help in the destruction of the Jedi? I want to know a lot more about all that stuff and don't feel like I really was told anything. I don't really know what happened.
Jakku I actually get from Star Wars Battlefront. After Endor, the Empire is regrouping at a facility there. The Rebels attack and wipe them out.
Also salty about the mandalorian banner about that one chick's bar, not sure why it was there.
500 years ago, in her pirate days, Maz stole the entire Mandalorian fleet. She's kept the one banner over her bar as a trophy.
Where did you find this info? The whole "pirate queen" turned out to be nothing but some sort of friendly grandma. She bakes cookies and hands out light sabers.

I disagree. Remember that the EU is called "Legends"....which basically means it's not wrong....but they aren't beholden to it. It's not like every character has just been wiped out. They are free to use any character that has been created, but they don't have to follow any story that that person has even done. So....they can use someone like Dengar, but all the stories that he's in aren't necessarily true. He has a ship called the Punishing One, but he might not have pulled Boba Fett from the belly of the Sarlac. If someone says, "Well....Dengar really did x, y, and z before....", they can respond with, "well, that was just a legend or rumor. It's not true". It's not like there isn't a Dengar.
So, I feel like the writers will take whatever they can from the EU, but reshape it to how it fits in with the current story.

Her reading his mind was less hard to swallow than her flying the falcon so well never having flown it before.
But i let it go as JJ does not understand the force.
