My patience is waning, Wave 3

By Talisker55, in Star Wars: Armada

Considering there's only one capital ship in the film, I don't see how they can make a new trilogy wave until the second movie.

Also, I don't expect to see wave three until this time next year.

You're an optimist ;)

I'm not too concerned with what to buy next, so wave three can take its time in my opinion. Wave 2 was a necessity for the game. With wave 2, the game feels complete to me. More expansions and more options will be awesome, in due course, but with what I currently have, I can play a very thematic, satisfying Star Wars game with a wide variety of potential permutations yet to come.

When that happens I think the game will be complete.

Apparently no new ships in the new movie somFF is probably just holding back because of the holidays. I imagine first week in Jan we will hear something.

A lot of good ships from the existing lore available. Don't think we need another ISD like ship for a while. The existing skeleton of ships available is now good. I can be very happy playing that what we have now for a long time. It was difficult to wait for this wave, but this wave 2 is really excellent. I was most surprised by the R&V and what it did to the game. Wow, really make squadrons better and played more.

Even if they never made any more new ships for this fine game. I would be happy playing this game for years to come just with the ships I have. well I might pick up 2 more MC80s and 2 more ISDs :D to play 1000 point games

Hehe, I'm heading out to watch the movie tonight and afterwards having a 1200pt a side game. Surprisingly it is still very tight and can't fit all my stuff. I'm leaving 3 raiders and a gladiator and a ton of fighters in the box...

Going to run 2x ISD, 3xVSD, 3xGlad, 2xRaider

If you haven't already, paint them up! It's a proven law of table top gaming, self-painted models perform better. :D

Red ones go faster.

3x, if my intel is correct.

My issue is the share leck of news. Nothing really since late oct really. Sure we got the news article that wave 2 hit thw shift. And the same news about worlds and such

if you want something released every week go and play 40k.

I quit that because I cannot deal with playing once/twice a month and having the meta changing literally every game, across over a dozen factions. The reading alone required to keep up with 40k is immense.

Armada is looking out to be a slower game for busy people. Much better for me.

Another point is that they definitely want to try and keep things as balanced as possible. Part of that is just letting the meta game sort itself out and let it rest for a bit.

Like right now in the meta games we have questions going like

"How to beat the Fireball effectively?"
"How awesome is Ackbhar? Just awesome or super awesome?"
"How much should you bid on initiative?"

Waiting to see how this will all sort itself out and making the next Wave build on that is a wise idea.

Just to come full circle, I saw force Awakens today and gave me a fix for exactly 8 hours.

If no news by tomorrow morning I am buying out the flgs of all xwing, Armada, and imperial assault.

King to you FFG.

Man... I'm with IFF too. I haven't gotten to play with enough of Wave 2 yet to really want Wave 3. There's tons of things I want to explore and do before I'm teased with new things.

Would love to hear a battle report on this. The 1200 point game that is.

I will try to post one. Will make a seperate thread including rules used

I would expect an announcement of wave 3 sometime in late February or early March, with a target release date in June. I would imagine they don't want to have X-wing and Armada waves hitting around the same time, and since I would expect wave 9 of x-wing in the late summer/early fall, that would line up nicely.

The real interesting question about wave 3 is what will be in it. I'd be rather interesting in seeing an Imperial Venator myself, along with a Rebel Providence, with both being geared towards a role as a more dedicated "carrier" type ship that supports squadrons well.

Calling it for Wave 3:

Rebels:

Liberty Class MC 80

Rebel Transport

Imperials:

Interdictor Class Star Destroyer

Imperial Customs Corvette

I counter with a second medium ship for each faction and the Nebulon-B for the Empire while the Rebels get another small ship.

Customs corvette seems out there imp.

I feel like we're almost guaranteed the Liberty and an Interdictor of some sort (cruiser or Star Destroyer) since both are canon. There is just too much love for these ships for them not to make the cut, be that wave 3 or beyond. The Rebel Transport and the Customs Corvette make little sense. The Customs Corvette is obscure and the Rebel Transport is traditionally unarmed. I think they have better choices for both sides. The Carrack class and the Venator are now canon (seriously, we should all send love letters to Luceno for the things he threw in Tarkin). Combined with their greater prominence, I think they are more likely to be seen. Rebels are harder for cannon choices, which is why I think we're already thinking about the Rebel Transport. The Braha'tok class, though more obscure, is canon since it appears in ROTJ, and would be a far better choice.

How about the light cruisers from Rebels the imperials field?

Wave 3 can wait, still having fun with Wave 2. However I hope that at some point in the future we get a Republic Fleet, and a Separatist Fleet. I know that it is a bit early to be wishing for those as there is still a lot of ships for the Imperials, and the Rebels to produce first and foremost.

I wouldn't mind seeing an announcement. It's gonna be six months or so until we actually get the ships, I don't mind knowing what they are.

Here's my (latest) wave 3 brainstorm. I'm going to start with an assumption FFG originally wanted a pre-Christmas and/or TFA release schedule. Wave 2 was supposed to hit over the summer, making wave 3 in December not unreasonable. However, as wave 2 got further delayed they realized announcing wave 3 for December would be "dangerous" if they failed to make it in time for Christmas. So they never announced. Well now it's clear December is out. So what is the hold up and secrecy for now? Now I'm lost. My only guess is they hoped to surprise release and it's just around the corner and will be announced and released in short order. That seems like a long shot. So then did they make a determination that a pre Christmas announcement for something releasing in January would eat into Xmas/TFA sales? If so I would expect the announcement to come either the last week of December or the first week of January. I'm guessing we'll hear something in January for a mid Feb street date. Pray they don't change the arrangement further.

I sense the Shuttle and the Gozanti will likely not be ships. I expect the Gozanti to be a squadron that can activate another squadron and the Shuttle. . . I am not sure what that could do support wise. . .

For the rebels we could see the mothership Corellian from the last episode of Rebels. . . We may see the Ghost as a squadron as well. . . maybe. . .

I think you're right, those Imp ships will likely be squadron size... :)
