New Bomber Pilot Toman Bren is SICK!

Is anyone not drooling at the new pilot ability on Toman Bren?!?!

"Once per round, after you discard an EPT Upgrade card, flip that card faceup"

What! Crackshot all day?

or title plus Fleet Officer and cool hand if you wanna run him in a swarm?

This is by far what I am most looking forward to when Veterans comes out.

Just making sure (because I've seen this mistake a lot) - Cool Hand doesn't remove stress. It just gives a focus/evade. So while your combo works, he is limited to greens every turn if he wants to keep doing Fleet Officer actions.

I think he's pretty cool just dropping seismics/ions every turn. Drop a range 1 damage bubble every turn. It's a swath of no-fly zone.

Clusters and crack shot is intriguing. I think most people have so little bomber experience it is hard to judge.

No coolhand doesnt remove it, but it does essentially give you soontir fels ability with the added bonus of getting a focus OR evade, which is siiiiick. But yea stuck to greens sucks run him in the backline if youre gonna use him as the fleet officer, then put like Ysanne Isard on him or something to ensure longer survival, double up on evades and hes doing his job.

Crack Shot seems like his bag. I suspect if you want to Fleet Officer buff, you're better going with Jonus if missiles ever get good or just a Scimitar really.

You know his ability only lets you save one-use EPTs, right? He's not an infinite Extra Munitions as well.

What I really enjoy about him is with the Bombers new build capabilities, Every one of the DeletEPTs (yes I just made that up right now but I like it) seems to work with him, but all in different and fun ways. Very innovative design and pilot.

Agreed, and I dont know if I would either, but to have the option is cool, and running him with just coolhand and fleet officer is only 28 points. leaving you with plenty of points to create a number of possibilities that can take advantage Fleet officer without dumping too many points into him and making him the primary target of your opponent.

i can see him being nice in swarms with Chaser and Omega Ace (get focus after pilots use focus) and (use focus and TL to turn all dice to crits)

Nope. That is what I get from reading his ability text on a browser that hasn't been updated. The EPT symbol doesn't show up on the squad builder, so it just says "an upgrade card". Too bad. I've been thinking about that wrong since I first looked it up.

His pilot skill is amazingly good, but he's still flying a TIE Bomber. Too easy to pin down and destroy and with only crackshot he's costing 1/4th of your points. Fel gets away with costing as much as he does with poor health because he's impossible to hit even if you can get him in arc, Toman not so much.

yea at that point it is preference 1 point wont make or break you although Omicron does look like the better option.

Cool Hand triggers between the moment of declaring with R3-A2 and the rolling of dice, so if a stressbot tries to get cute, he just boosted your defense.

For maneuvering, I'd probably choose Lightning Reflexes, for maximum effect, allowing you to troll to your heart's content.

The big upside to using Fleet Officer on the Bombers rather than the Lambda is that it is much easier to keep the Fleet Officer where it needs to be with the Bomber. I'd probably go with a cheaper Bomber for Fleet Officer duty though.

20 points gets you a Fleet Officer in a Scimitar with Mk.II

24 points gets you a Fleet Officer in a Gamma Squad Vet with Mk.II and Wired

25 points gets you a Fleet Officer in a Gamma Squad Vet with Mk.II and Wingman

I'm curious to see if the unspoiled pilot will have an ability particularly suited to being a shuttle pilot. All it would take to make it worth bringing Tomax as a Fleet Officer chauffeur is a one shot EPT that affects either allies or enemies. Something like "At the start of the combat phase, you may select another ship at range 1-2 and trade one of your stress, focus, or evade tokens for one of their tokens" would be amazing.
