The evolution of Naval warfare and how it becomes relevant in Wave 2...

By darth0fthedead, in Star Wars: Armada

lol. though in the meantime, someone please please come up with a strike tactic for forward shooting ships against broadside shooting ships.

And don't tell me to go under the mat and pop up like submarines.

Why, it's simple...

Star wars Armada is NOT modern fleet warfare and do not think of it like that. There are just too many issues not covered

Yeah like for example, in WW2 the battles were dominated by carriers and their fighters. The fighters had a decent range, but had to come back to refuel and reload.

Out squadrons don't have to go back for refuel and reloading, but because of the way squadron commands work they need to stay close to their carrier ships. Which is pretty annoying.

Hence the birth of the rogue squadrons. I do feel it is annoying that to make not rogue fighters more effective we must give them commands.

If you really really want a true space warfare game you have to get to Advance Vector: Tactical. A true 3D real physics game.

Armada is just pure fund and enjoyable.

Yeah that's the one design flaws in Armada. I know they wanted to put the focus on capital ships and make a squadron commands useful, but instead they've made it really awkward.

If any of these ships had to be an equivalent to a submarine it would be both the gladiator and mc30. Those completely changed naval warfare and they do the same thing here. I to enjoy the battles of Midway, old time 1700s,1800s warfare as the ship of the lines were dominate and then as the plane became relevant they became a weak spot for bigger ships as we seen for the Bismarck when dozens of torpedo bombers sank it, the same happens to a ISD when a swarm of B-wings comes in.

Totally disagree there is no submarine warfare here meaning a hidden hunter with a surprise attack.

This is pure 2d fleet naval warefAre

The game is played on table top, of course it's going to play 2D.

Come in from the sides and catch them when they turn.

Use the space on the board and herd the enemy instead of bee lining right at them - ISD's make great anvils and Fireballs/glads make great hammers. Varying speed throws timing off, just because an ISD can move 3 doesn't mean it always has to.

Have you got a bat rep you can spell out? I know this all in theory, but I haven't seen it used effectively against me. Nor have I been able to actuate it.

Fighters are far too slow and not deadly enough for this to fit the WWII paradigm. The Swordfish that damaged the Bismarck could travel over 4 times as fast, about speed 12-16 And, could only make one run, but that one run could sink a BB.

I think of fighters and bombers as being closer to torpedo boats, and the Raider fits the DD job. Destroyers were literally called "torpedo boat destroyer" (TBD) when first introduced.
