Star Wars Force Awakens Ships (Spoilers from the Movie)

By Olethros, in X-Wing

If they do a 'Higgins' style landing craft as a ship in the game, I _really_ want it to have side arcs and no front/rear arc. That would fly _very_ differently from all the other ships in the game.

I don't see the point of having the ship in the game, but mechanically that is quite intriguing.

That's exactly my thinking. :)

Who spotted the Y-Wings?

No me neither :(

... ZOOM-BOOM?

Lots of zoom-boom ... just no Y-wings doing it

They WILL be in the next film though without any shadow of a doubt

Clearly we need a PS0 Han Solo now.

(Too soon?)

:(

That they're funded by Leia makes sense, right down to that they all fly X-wings exclusively: She's gotten one contract for one ship, so she got a good one but hasn't had the supply lines to diversify.

I actually like that detail; it helps justify the sparseness. Of course, I'd have preferred more variety, but that's surely the next movie.

No Interceptors, though? :(

/sf is the new interceptor.

Also given how wonderful the new T-70 is I do not see us getting REB%252520NEW%252520X-WING%252520POE.png at all, not from FFG. Time to get out the black and orange paint after X-Mas is done I think...

So, as a scum player myself, I'd like to see that ship the pirate's were flying when they boarded Han's corvette. It was a glimpse but it seemed sweet!

PS 0 Falcon is R2-D2 and C-3PO from Shadows of the Empire novel...

Finn crew:

If you start the combat round with an enemy ship in arc, you may preform an attack on the selected ship out of PS order. You may not preform another attack this round.

Hey, I like that. That's cool.

Definitely disappointed at how few ships were in this movie, especially considering they were basically all old designs. Only real new ships were the troop transports, kylo's shuttle, and leia's transport.

Yet another reason to tap the prequels for ships, as TFA is basically done other than maybe doing the special forces tie, and MAYBE kylo's shuttle if it's not too big for the game.

At leas Rogue One takes place at the heart of the Rebelion era, with plenty of opportunity for EU ships to be cannonized.

I guess you forgot the comics and books that will be coming out over the next two years, as well as incidental phone games and such. I'm sure there's gonna be some ships set in the sequel era in all that canon media.

Although it seemed that SotE had ALOT more designs coming out, and that wasn't even a movie.

+ Poe's T-70

Han had another ship, remember?

The one he used to steal back the Falcon. Though we didn't get a good look at it, it would easily classify as a Huge ship and wouldn't be usable in standard play.

We may see FFG dip into some of the concept art for the film, or maybe just swing back to some obscure EU ships, like the H-Wing. I'd love to see something like "Imperial Allies" and "Rebel Allies" with Chiss and Hapes Consortium ships, respectively.

Also, a capital ship getting bested by a single TIE?! Worst Star Destroyer Class, ever.

Not bested, just simply delayed... of course that's what happens when you put your guns in plain view for all to see... recessed guns are best guns.

If we're looking into TFA tie-in media, like the prequel novel Before The Awakening, then we get more ships.

There's the T-85 X-wing (the T-70 is an older model), there's the Z-95 Headhunter (maybe it's the EU version and not the TCW version?) and there's lots of capital ships as well.

Ok where the heck is my T-85?!

While it's slightly disappointing to not have some shiny new fighters to drool over, I can understand why it was done. The X-Wing and the Tie fighter are the ultimate iconic ships of each faction, and since both the factions and the ships themselves have changed somewhat, it makes sense for them to want to reinforce the identities of the First Order and the Resistance by keeping the iconic ships front and center.

I personally consider it laziness on the designer's part. Every Star Wars movie before now has introduced new fighter designs, usually for both sides but Ep VII finally comes and all we get is upgraded X-Wings and a couple of TIE variants. One of the things I like about the Stars Wars movies is the clash between a force with multiple ship and fighter design styles facing one with a more unified design style. I just hope Episode VIII fixes things.

Honestly, I hope they don't make Ren's shuttle. I didn't like it. WAY too much wing on that little box.

Not bested, just simply delayed... of course that's what happens when you put your guns in plain view for all to see... recessed guns are best guns.

Eh. Every moving part is a potential point of failure. In both combat and in general maintenance you should want to minimize those points of failure to the greatest extent. Recessed guns would need entire new mechanisms to put themselves into firing position, which would add complexity for no better reason than elegance.

Not to mention that if something is recessed, it must be _recessed inside of something_, which adds bulk to the ship for no better reason than etc.

In a normal combat situation, a fighter or ship must cross the firing lines of the Star Destroyer before that fighter or ship can begin to fire on the actual guns of the Star Destroyer. Basically the only time that a recessed gun would be advantageous in combat is... when a TIE pilot goes rogue and begins to shoot up the joint on their way out. If that's the sort of thing that happens often enough that you have to plan for in the design stages of your Star Destroyer, you've got bigger problems than the kind of guns you're using.

Normally, the shields would help protect those guns as well, just not from someone who's already inside the barrier
