Star Wars Force Awakens Ships (Spoilers from the Movie)

By Olethros, in X-Wing

So there is an official description of it in Starwars.com

"FIRST ORDER SPECIAL FORCES TIE FIGHTER

A two-seat strike fighter used by the First Order’s elite Special Forces pilots, the TIE/SF boasts weapons far more powerful than a standard TIE, combining laser cannons with a heavy turret and warhead launcher. Special Forces TIEs have hyperdrives, deflector shields and high-yield cells that provide additional power to onboard systems. These versatile attack ships are used for everything from reconnaissance to combat operations."

So....

....Sensors slot?

Would we rather a Turret upgrade slot or a straight up rear firing arc?

Turret upgrade is probably the easiest to implement the features in the movie. However, a Primary weapon turret COULD work as well.

Before people complain, remember we are playing the game on a two dimensional plane only. So some concessions need be made. Suspension of disbelief versus overly complicated rules.

Seems the special forces TIE will be the defender/interceptor hybrid.

I'd be happy with a Firespray-style rear arc, possibly a Ghost-style 'special arc' that's enabled by taking a Rear Gunner crew upgrade that's TIE/sf only. The panels on the side make it a little hard to shoot sideways. ;)

Ordnance pod? Missiles. Mag Pulse could make a great utility missile, we could do with more cheap ordnance for aces to carry. Mmaybe Systems (Scary as heck with Tech alongside, but could be fun), almost certainly a Crew (As noted, maybe needed to do unconventional firing)...

But I really am disappointed by the Cookie Cutter Rebellion. My pet theory is that the mention of being funded by the Senate means that all their ships were identical because they were just getting shipments of them straight from Republic factories, and skipping the 'ragtag' aspect entirely. Indeed, were this the case, it might've been harder for them to get hold of bespoke designs... because there's only a handful of supply channels available.

Still, sure seemed to be a swing and a miss on having variety, y'know? The merch! Think of the merch!

I don't get why everyone wants a new Falcon, can't you just stick a new dish on it? people on here make Entire ships!

How about the ship they were running to before it blew up and they headed to tha Falcon instead, We never saw it fly but it could be a nice (scum) addition.

Also how about the Freighter Han's on as an epic ship

And a Hotshotblaster on a T-70 please??? :D

Who spotted the Y-Wings?

No me neither :(

Y-wings were outdated in the OT man.... they long gone!

Perhaps - although I hypothesized a while back that we might see an updated version.

Reasoning that Y-Wings far outlived their expected lifespan due to their adaptability and rugged design, and that its replacement, the B-Wing, was expensive, difficult to fly, prone to technical problems, and could not fulfil all of the roles that the wishbone could - it would not be unreasonable for there to have enough of resurgence in demand for Konesayr's venerable old workhorse for them to produce an updated model.

I was totally hoping for some newer versions of the A-wings and B-wings... I really don't know why the didn't put anything like that. Even the new Tie is exactly like the old one, its jus a paint job.

Oddly enough, the biggest ship catch for me was at the very beginning when Poe turns the blaster on the T-70 around and fires it backwards. I can see a new Tech upgrade implementing something like that, and that could cover for the Special Forces Tie shooting backwards as well. I feel they should just give the Tie/FO a Special Forces Tie title. That way, we don't have... what? 3 nearly identical Ties in the game? Ugh... I don't want that... I really think title is the way to go. But, I honestly think it's too much of a cash grab for them to do that, even if it would be more practical.

I think once they step into the bigger picture of the Galaxy and the Republic, you'll see more ships. Force Awakens struck me as all taking places in a weird corner of the Outer-rim where a splinter group faction is making a stink, but a legally legit stink, so the Republic makes a puppet cell to fight them.

So come EP.8 or books or comic, there hopefully will be new version of the old ships we love, this movie was training wheels bike made so all audiences got an enjoyable experience.

I just really hope they aren't gonna start grasping at straws and put in ships that really don't need to be. I mean.... I guess Kylo Ren's shuttle is fine, but.... I don't have to like that it is. Also, the ship that looks like an old cell phone and/or toothbrush, that made a very, very brief appearance (this one), is down right hideous in my opinion, and I pray they don't find a way to include it in the game.

From that description, it sounds like TIE/SA:TIE/Fo::TIE/ln:TIE/Advanced.

Some have said that the TIE/SA can be created through an upgrade title, and we now have precedent for that via the TIE Shuttle. If the external physical differences between the Fo and the SA are different enough to spot on a mini, I'd like to have a whole second New Order ship to pew pew pew around with, though. :)

I'd love to see a 2 die front primary and 3 die rear "special" arc. With all the weapon upgrade slots only being firable from that special arc. That would make the ship _interesting_

Abou the new Tie Fighter it's important to say, it must be a rear arc, the Tie Fighter can't use turret, otherwise it would shoot its panels... However the movie totally opens precedent for the T-70 X-Wing use one turret slot.

I think a Tech-upgrade for T-70s to have a "Hot-shot" like blaster would be good, but that thing looked weak compared to the main blasters.

I'd say about:
2 dice
range 1
out of arc.
(3 pts)

Allows you to still get a chance to get something out of ships that slip out of your arc.

As for the Tie spec forces? So down for a small ship with a turret slot but locked to a Firespray like arc, then a BTL like title that allows you to fire your primaries then an equipped turret if you have a target lock on the opponent or something.

Hm, lemme see if I got all the ships in the movie (bar the various random 'scum' ships).

Resistance:

T70 Xwing

Falcon

'Fat Bwing' transport ship

First Order

TIE FO fighter

TIE Special Forces (SF?)

'Higgins' style landing craft

Black Ren Shuttle

So a good amount, especially if you throw in several of the random Scum ships that showed up for a split second. It would have been nice to get another one or two fighters (especially for the resistance), but I think that is a pretty good number. Only bummer is we now have to wait two more years to see any more new fighters for the Resistance or First Order in a movie.

Even sitting backwards, Finn still shoots forward so maybe a future upgrade card.

I was sort of thinking of the Resistance kind of like the CIA advisors that the US sends into a country when we don't want to go to full-on war. This metaphor will break down quickly if I stretch it, so I'll stop it there.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the Resistance now that the Senate has been destroyed. Presumably the government will go on (All hail President Roslin), but the regular army/navy should be the ones taking over the fight.

I'm hoping the Upsilon shuttle gets to show off some of its combat effectiveness in VIII if we do get it in X-Wing; it's plenty intimidating, but I want those giant guns and massive (hopefully thruster-ridden) stabilisers to be put to good use onscreen instead of just hearing about the effectiveness of, say, the Lambda.

According to the FA Visual Dictionary the Resistance is a Private Army founded and funded by General Leia. It is understaffed and under financed because no on in the Republic wants to help. As far as they are concerned Leia is a fear-monger trying to stir up trouble. Where as Leia has never trusted the Peace Accord signed by the Empire Remnant. The republic acknowledges the Resistance but does not support it.

She has hand picked all the Resistance troops and talked Akbar our of retirement etc...

Heavy Shielding and lots of sensors in the wings...

When they

started doing the attack run on the oscillator

, I kept thinking "where are the B-Wings?!"

Also: had they wanted to, this would have been a perfect time to introduce E-Wings. :)

If they do a 'Higgins' style landing craft as a ship in the game, I _really_ want it to have side arcs and no front/rear arc. That would fly _very_ differently from all the other ships in the game.

Clearly we need a PS0 Han Solo now.

(Too soon?)

Boo!

Actually when will 24 hour news acknowledge that one of the most well known characters in cinema got killed by his own son. I mean the next movie is only two years away, it's gotta be Common knowledge by then

I don't see the point of having the ship in the game, but mechanically that is quite intriguing.
