New Imperial Player - Strats and Tips

By thiagolbahia, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hi there,

I just sold me Descent Into darkness and im gonna focus on Imperial Assault. I was a little sad about core rules on Descent that made Overlord life a hell on earth.

Thankfully Imperial Assault Corrected these errors (being alternative turns for imperial/rebels, not that enormous amount of healing descent had and once dead, ur dead), and the game is perfectly balanced.

BUT, im new to the game and don't wanna bring old Descent Habits.

So im here humbling asking for tricks, tips, experienced guidance from you all!!

Make sure the game is an enjoyable experience for your an your rebel players. I'm not saying to purposefully make mistakes but don't always bring the strongest units you'll ended up only running 1-2 different unit types then.

Enjoy your specialization deck. Look through the three available in the base game and pick your favorite, I suggest military might as your first deck to try out.

Don't be afraid to let a deployment group go un replenished between rounds, sometimes it's good to save up thread for a bigger bad, or when you know a more convineant deployment zone will be opening.

At the same time don't let them rebels have it easy, keep a constant force on the board to make them consider whether they should be running forward or proceeding with caution.

Most of all have fun.

Like KennedyHawk wrote don't always bring the strongest units specially in the first couple of missions. I choose the ones that fit the mission "flavor". The game is for you and your friends to have fun. Not an olympic competion.

And winning is fun. Crush them. Show no mercy. If you show mercy to the rebels at the beginning, they will steamroll you at the end.

In my campaign with work buddies, the Rebels are cruising. I showed mercy in an early mission and now I'm worried they'll run the table. They got a bunch of XP banked and are buying some nice swag, so it's going to be a rough run for me as the Imps through the back half of the game, I think.

Still, everyone is having fun and my players are admiring the painting I've done, so... no harm, no foul. :)
