Long Range Scanners and FCS

By AgentV, in X-Wing Rules Questions

If you have LRS and FCS on the same ship (I know a Punisher can do that for sure) and the ship you fire at is within range 1-2, can you still acquire a TL on them after you fire?

Nope

Another edition of "Short Answers to Long Questions" :)

I disagree. Explain why it would be no, if FCS lets you lock on who you fire then how can you not? I have used this combo with Redline a lot and no one has ever said it can not be done.

Because cannot trumps can... from the rules "If a card ability or mission effect uses the word

“cannot,” that effect is absolute and cannot be overridden by other effects."

Long Range Sensors says "You cannot acquire target locks on ships at range 1-2." So that trumps anything FCS lets you do.

You could take a range three shot and acquire a target lock via Fire Control System while Long Range Sensors are equipped.

Says right on the card

"cannot aquire target lock at range 1-2"

Fcs let's you "aquire"

Your safe at range 3

Not at range 1 or 2

You can still take your regular target lock action at range 1 and 2 because your not "acquiring" it

No, the actual name of the action is "acquire target lock" and it lets you do just that. Unless something else prevents it, such as long range scanners.

As has been mentioned, the rules say an effect that says "cannot" is absolute. You CANNOT acquire a target lock at ranges 1-2.

The only way to bypass that restriction is if an effect allows a TL that was acquired by a different ship to pass you the blue TL token, such as col. Jendon. Then it is the other ship that acquired the lock, not the LRS ship.

Oh wow

I was thinking about that but I figures your action to target lock was not a aquire ability.

Well that makes a huge difference
