Autoblaster question

Has anyone found a use for it? I'm looking at it again because I just opened an Aggressor box, but can't see any use in it at all.

All of the other cannons have some sort of use- stress, ion, crit causing.... The Autoblaster just seems overpriced and under-ranged.

So I really have two questions-

1. If you yave found a use for the Autoblaster, what is it?

2. What would you suggest to change the weapon to make it useful?

Ignoring Defense die and evade tokens. It's good against Poe Dameron or anything with autothrusters and stealth device.

I would only take it on the Brobot that gets rerolls on misses. Boost in to range one and autoblast.

There's a B-wing Pilot that does 1 crit that can't be evaded too, but since Mangler cannon came out he uses that instead.

If you can get a B-Wing, Lambda or Aggressor consistently in R1, the Autoblaster in combination with Acc. Corrector (also in the Aggressor pack) causes two unavoidable hits.

I really like it on Scum Boba Fett with VI and Engine Upgrade.

If you are talking about Autoblaster Turret, then Palob Godalhi with Opportunist is the best use of either of those cards.

Otherwise on Rebel side, Jan Ors can help other Autoblasters or Autoblaster Turreters get extra uncancelled hits.

Kavil w/Autoblaster Turret, Opportunist. Pair him with Palob, and that's 4 red dice out-of-arc with unavoidable hits.

It's quite fun on Dash with Outrider, VI, and Navigator. Dashigator is VERY hard to stay away from when he wants to snuggle up close to you. ;)

In fact, I had a player that only plays Palp + Soontir start yelling when he did the 2 focus + evade token on Soontir while in range 1 of my Boba, and I 1 shot him. Our league TO had to come over and also explain to him that Autoblaster goes through even Evade tokens. With Greedo on there, you ensure the first hit is a crit that cannot be evaded.

except Autoblaster turret as a 2ndary (not i.t.o game rules; actually secondary) weapon for ships that don't need for their main offensive punch, such as a Mine Laying Warden or possibly Ghost

Stressed Keyan loves autoblaster. With a TL your chances of rolling three uncancellable hits is pretty good.

Oh, he's not cheap, I'll grant you that. (I tend to stick to PTL and no other upgrades to keep the cost down personally). But against some lists he will eat them alive.

Auto-blasters (Cannon) got a few problems. But we will break it down.

1st and foremost is the range 1. Range 1 is the smallest area in terms of range bands means it is very hard to get ship inside and very easy to get out of arc. Being a secondary weapon means that for most pilots you have to be within arc and Arc Dodgers have their name for a reason.

2nd is the Firepower and 3 firepower while sounds good in conjunction with the range 1 3 is really horrible. So technically this is equivalent to firepower 2 and we all know how bad that currently is in the meta. When you look at ships that can carry a cannon slots most of them already have 3 firepower. The only ship that does not is the Scyk and that ship does not want to get within range 1 necessarily. For most ships using this weapon is a downgrade in firepower.

3rd canceling crits. This makes crits more like a normal hit in terms of defense dice. Now sure HLC automatically changes crits to hits but HLC rolls more dice at longer ranges and can re-roll to crits and again it negates the defenders range bonus. Autoblasters allows for crits to be canceled reduces firepower and removes the attackers range bonus.

Last is the point cost, again autoblaster reduce firepower removes the attacker's range bonus and makes crits easily canceled for 5 points. Mangler cannon is 4 and that removes range bonus, keeps firepower the same and gives more crits.

Now autoblaster turret is a thing but that is alright, the only downside is a new upgrade called TLT but as far as autoblasters the ability to shoot outside of arc and negate evade results which is the primary defense of Arc Dodgers makes this for a good upgrade. It forces them to stay out of range 1 when arc dodging and they don't get their extra red dice. Again the onyl reason this doesn't see much more play is because of TLT.

I run Brobots with autothrusters, crack shot, accuracy corrector, Ion Cannon, and Autoblaster. It's not gonna win any tournaments, but it's not a pushover. Ties get nommed on. Health-reliant builds shrug it off.

I had a really fun time with Autoblaster Turret on Miranda with a Jan Hawk flitting around in the background, letting me set up a 4 dice Autoblaster attack.

It didn't proc often, but when it did, it was glorious!

Wonder if this could see any play on a TIE/D. VI Rexler, maybe?

It's hilarious on Chop but near useless on anything else.

Once I flew scum boba right up to corrans face and took 3 hp of him straight away. Then IG b sniped the last hps off. Killed him dead in first round of shooting.

Fun times.

Why didn't you just take a HLK IG+ Mangler IG and strip his tokens with HLK and then add some spice with Mangler?

Same price, better effect.

Dash is a nice idea - it certainly makes a difference from people trying to chase you!

But yeah, Scum Boba Fett seems best suited for it - he's desperate to knife fight with people anyway.

I wonder if Moralo Eval might be able to make good use of it, but frankly a 180' heavy laser cannon is too tempting to ever find out!
