The Force Awakens

By David Spangler, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I imagine it will just be a matter of time until expansions--or even a new core set--show up incorporating the characters and scenarios from the new SWTFA. They've already arrived for X-Wing. Personally, I'd love to see this to expand the playable SW universe into the new trilogy.

I imagine they won't do anything until a few good decent weeks, if not months, after the movie. Just so most people have the time to see it.

The reason they did X-Wing is because there isn't really anything character-wise to spoil using X-Wing's content

As people have said on previous occasions when this has been discussed: IA is more narrative than x-wing. It might have the same problem that (I feel) an imperial campaign or clone wars content would have, that is that the 'bad guys' don't have the sense of inevitability of "we have guys, they will eventually overwhelm you." I think we need to wait until at least episode VIII (probably IX) to know enough about the first-order and resistance conflict to make IA stuff. When that happens I think it'll be another core set to avoid time period problems.

And if they bump Bespin and Endor for this crap, so help me God, there will be angry letters.

I expect lots of star wars announcements from ffg over the next couple of weeks to capitalize on the hype.

Watching the last 10 minutes of attack of the clones was like watching one big toy advert, they squeezed so many different vehicles and stuff in just so they could sell toys.

I get a similar feeling from the trailers for TFA, we've already seen enough stuff to make a new core set and several figure packs. I'm seeing the movie todat and I'm sure I'll be thinking "that'll be coming to IA, that will soon be in x-wing, that would look nice in armada" while I'm watching.

At least Im not the only one.

FLAME TROOPERS FOR THE WIN! And a command card that gives a one use flame thrower to a Hunter or Trooper.

FLAME TROOPERS FOR THE WIN! And a command card that gives a one use flame thrower to a Hunter or Trooper.

Because nothing says "unstoppable military juggernaut" like equipping your soldiers with outmoded archaic weapons that have no place on a modern, let alone SciFi, battlefield.

Basically my reasoning. Really though, gimme some Flametroopers.

How did people feel about the First Order in general? I felt the film didn't really set them up as a military powerhouse on the scale of the Empire. On the other hand the resources to build Starkiller Base would be insane.

To be fair, the empire was not set up as the powerhouse until ESB.

the FO was modelled like the empire in ANH. killed some innocents early on, have a big bad guy on a leash, have a big bad super weapon of death, done

we won't get the FO explained fully until the 8th film i suggest

I feel like they're a splinter group in the galaxy, far on the reaches of the outer rim, but must in some way be seen as a legitiment controlling power. That's why the Republic used "the Resistance" to fight against them instead of fighting them directly, couldn't stick their opinions of the organization into the conflict and had to keep an air of unbiased.

I wonder how much First Order there is left after they lost their base, I wonder if the SL has a Star Forge like factory hidden away,

Did we watch the same ANH?

If the name "Galactic Empire" isn't enough there's the first shot in the film (as Red Letter Media put it "This tells you everything you need to know: Rebels, small, Empire, huge") and the fact that Palpatine can "Dissolve [the last remnants of the old republic] permanently" and not have it merit more than a line or two.

That intro just set it up as the current ruling government/dictatorship, didn't set it up as a particularly strong military....after all we only saw one star destroyer, and one space station with about 20 tie fighters and that was defeated by 36 snubfighters. It was not until ESB that we started to see a proper civil war and both sides flexing their military muscles where the differences and the struggle is really conveyed, in one scene you can see about 10 star destroyers with the super star destroyer.....that screams military might to me by comparison.
