Poe + Esege

By EbongHawk, in X-Wing

Has this come up this weekend and we decided that it does work. I don't see why it wouldn't. We did mess up on how often it triggers.

Esege reads: When another friendly ship at range 1-2 is attacking, it may treat your focus tokens as its own.

Poe Dameron reads: When attacking or defending, if you have a focus token, you may change one of your <eyeball> results to a <hit> or <evade> result.

So we accidentally allowed it to trigger all the time on Sunday as we were setting up for a smaller local tournament and were rushing to get ready. Discussing it now it appears that Esege only triggers Poe when attacking. Just found this to be interesting. If someone has brought this up in another thread I apologize, I did try to search it but as we all know the results with the search function are... well...

Anyway, what do you guys think? Am I reading this right? Should it not trigger since Poe doesn't "have" a focus, should Esege's focus only be allowed in the traditional use of a focus or is something like this what they were going for?

I'd say that it works for Poe if he's attacking.

Esege says when attacking other ships can treat that focus token as their own. So there's no reason Poe's ability wouldn't work then.

But it wouldn't work when Poe is defending, since Esege's ability says 'when attacking'.

That's what we came to as well. If we'd paid closer attention this weekend I'm sure we'd have caught it. I still won the day so the trigger probably wouldn't be broken but I just wondered if anyone else had ran into it.
