This reporter's ranking of best to worst Star Wars films:

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. A New Hope
  3. The Force Awakens
  4. Return of the Jedi
  5. Revenge of the Sith
  6. The Phantom Menace
  7. Attack of the Clones

If you were to place the 7 movies in order from best to worst, where would Fore Awakens be?

It's up there with the best.

  • The Empire Strikes Back
  • A New Hope
  • The Force Awakens
  • Return of the Jedi
  • Revenge of the Sith
  • The Phantom Menace
  • Attack of the Clones

That's about right. My list would be almost identical:

  • A New Hope
  • Return of the Jedi
  • The Force Awakens
  • Revenge of the Sith
  • Attack of the Clones
  • The Phantom Menace

TFA has no Ewoks, so clearly it's better than RotJ :D

Just to be honest and clear here: is this a vast improvement over the prequels? Are you looking forward to more Star Wars, and did it give you a good feeling of coming back?

I mean the way you can read your ranking DA you could say, "Well, it sucked as badly as the prequels but I'm rating FA higher because it doesn't have Jar Jar and Hayden Christensen's terrible acting in it".

The movie isn't going to meet everyone's expectations, though I feel the movie IS setting up for a sequel trillogy that is only going to get better with the futher installments. I'm expecting it to set the groundwork for better movies if it doesn't completely deliver by itself.

I'll be seeing it tomorrow around 10:45pst. I'm counting the hours.

This is Star Wars.

It's just as good as any of the Original Trilogy movies, and I want to see it again, and again.

The new characters are just as engaging as the old ones - in fact, I'd argue that the less we see of the old heroes, the better.

So yes, I think it will get better and better.

Good :) Thats what I wanted to know Green Knight.

I fully agree with GK. The single best thing about TFA is that it takes the prequels and tosses them in the garbage. No need to watch them ever again.

How would you rate episode 7 on a scale of 1-10?

Also, would love to go to those other threads, but I havent seen it yet and I do not want anything spoiled...but I want to see what kind of new ships there are!

9?

Cool, just trying to get an idea of how much people liked the movie :)

I'd rate it a 9+ Great movie really well done captures the essence of the original trilogy

will be going to see it at Least once more

So glad that everyone who has seen it is giving it good praise. Now only 14.5 hrs till I can see it! lol

8 hours and counting. I'm giddy with excitement.

Seen it twice now. No change in opinion.

Well we all know for good science you need to at least test something 3 times, so go watch it again and report your findings :P

You bet I will. I'm planning to take my father to see it when I visit him for Christmas. I owe him that much, after he turned me to the Dark Side three decades ago...

9 is an accurate rating. As I let it sink in, I can't help but put it in the same class as A New Hope!

I will say, while there were Cheers & Tears in the theater, the only Jeers came before the film started, and an add popped up telling people to "Make sure to recycle their 3D glasses after the movie." My 14 year old still had his Kylo Ren, limited edition 3D glasses on his head when Isent him to bed.

See th movie... Then see it again.

Not gonna watch it twice... after sleeping over it, it's a 7.5 for me. Without the Star Wars theme it would be much less... Yeah i'm gonna be that edgy guy that has to criticize it and will be hated by many xD

In my opinion its better than 1-3 worse than 4-6, Which is about what I expected personally.

I think it's hard to judge this movie. On some level, I think it's better than A New Hope actually. But both movies do different things. A new Hope was a one-off window into a new universe. The Force Awakens is something else, and in a way does things better than ANH.

For me the movie was maybe a hair less enjoyable ANH or RotS. If you want a 1-10 scale, I'd say 7.5/10 at best. Honestly, I liked Sith more than FA.

For me it's 5, 3, 4, 7, 6, 2, 1

One of my biggest disappointment for FA was the score. All of the prequels had better music. It felt very...bland, especially for John Williams.

I liked it. It tried to do too many things but that's over with, now we can focus on things in the sequels. One annoyance was we kept getting a glimpse into things without further explanation (C'mon, JJ, you know to show and not tell). Also, MOAR STARFIGHTER COMBAT (not a spoiler, I don't think I'll be happy until we get 2 straight hours of Wedge dogfighting).
