The Officially Unofficial Force Awakens SPOILER and Discussion Thread. You've Been Warned

By Engine25, in X-Wing

First of all, I liked the movie very much, but:

I cannot believe that the liason between Han and Leia ends up in nothing than a nightmare for them and many others (and Hans life becomes worthless, if not negative).

Hopefully it will go into another direction, because anytime now watching the original trilogy seeing Han an Leia will always let my head shake. It was always one of the best parts in Star Wars, that despite evil thing something good came out of it, and Hand gets the girl.

Can anyone convince me to still be delighted for Han and Leia in the original trilogy please? ;)

The interaction between Han and Leia may have been a bit dull to some people, but it is far from worthless. They build up on the hope of returning Kylo and rekindling the family relationship they once had, hence the whole "bring him home" aspect of it all.

But... Han is a gambler and that's how he's always lived his life. When he stepped on that bridge to convince Kylo to come home, he took a gamble and, ironically, his luck had finally run out when he decides to take that gamble on his son. You can even see Han was quite hesitant before approaching him and waited until he was at an advantageous point (one on one on the bridge) to confront him, and it all backfired and the dice came up cold.

On a side note, I did love the Wookiee rage from Chewie. No prolonged lamentation or seconds spared of mourning or disbelief, just "RRRRAAAAAA!!!!!" Pew Pew! Dead stormtroopers, boom goes the station. Golden moment right there.

I do find Han's and Leia's story extremely believable - much more than the fairy tale in the EU. Carrie Fisher was kinda wooden in her role however, bit I'm glad to have them back. Having the OT characters all old and tired (except C-3PO and Chewbacca) made it much more interesting and real for me.

Chewbacca blasting the snot nosed punk reminds me why he is always my favourite character in Star Wars.

So, what do we reckon? Was Chewie originally a candidate to bite the fish biscuit in the film? Do we think multiple versions of the scene may have been shot to throw people off the scent? Or did Finn's Soul Glo just not handle those conditions?

just trolls

Cool fact:

The voice calling rey's name at the end of her vision is obi-wan Kenobi...voiced by ewan McGregor!

Hoping he shows up as a force ghost in one of the sequels along with yoda and Anakin.

Imagine Anakin talking to kylo to tell him how messed up he is for worshipping Vader.

Another cool fact: Ewan McGregor wasn't the first choice for the voice in Rey's vision. That would be James Arnold Taylor, who did the voice of Obi Wan in The Clone Wars and Rebels.

Another, less cool fact, is that "Guinness" turns to "business" in my autocorrect. Well, Sir Alec was the business after all...

Rey is in fact the daughter of Yoda and Jabba's pet Rancor (Daphne).

Use the force - you know it to be true...

I'm a bit confused by all the hate for this being a complete rip-off or rehash of IV. Before it even came out, I expected the movie to conservatively follow the formula of the first movie and I wasn't disappointed. I knew they had to do that so everyone could say, "Yeah, this is Star Wars." Now that the characters are introduced, I hope they break the mold a bit in the next two movies, but all the allusions and similarities to the first movie came off as a brilliant piece of art to me.

Is the resistance the tiniest military force ever? They lose a few X-Wings and one of the guys says they have lost "half the fleet". Does he mean just the attacking forces? Given that they wanted to stop the sun-shooty-base thing specifically to save the fleet this seems rather Pyrrhic.

Probably just the ships from that base. Though, I believe the "Before the Awakening" says that they have at least 2 Mon Cal Cruisers (Leia's taken up the Home One).

People complained that the prequels weren't enough like the originals. Now they're complaining the sequel is too much like the originals. Can't have it both ways people lol

not being the originals was the least of the prequels' problems

No disagreement there. Just saw this point made in a review video and it made me chuckle.

Yet another cool fact. One of those "Rey"s is spoken by Alec Guinness. He was sampled saying " afraid".

There was also some Frank Oz in there. I hadn't heard Guinness was in there yet.

The reason Poe didn't appear more in the film is because he was originally scripted to die and JJ wriggled him back in. Probably also why Poe's behavior is so odd...he swears to go back for BB-8, but then (apparently) just deserts him and goes back to flying X-Wings like nothing happened. I assume he was supposed to bite it in that TIE Fighter and they figured it was safe to just throw him back in back with the Resistance.

Interesting. Do you have sources for that. Seems legit

Poe's disappearance and reappearance really bothered me. I'm quite convinced that he was captured by the First Order and "conditioned" to be a spy. He's going to betray everyone in episode VIII -- mark my words!

My question about Poe is about his Accent... Where in the Rebel Alliance is the Brooklyn Sector... because that accent hit HARD.
