I agree with earlier post, upper atmosphere could be one map edge. As much as we want our ships to be big, even the death star was only the size of a SMALL moon.
Can we get a planet token and planetary missions please?
An asteroid would be cool. But very little has the visual impact of a planet on board.
Aren't we forgetting that the table-top is just a poor gamer's convention, meant to represent 3 dimensional space? How about this : the planet is in the distance -- literally thousands of miles away. So a planetary counter on the game mat is really far away. At scale, the planet would need to be thousands of miles away, straight down.
That's not an unreasonable distance for defenders to engage the aggressors during an attack on a planet.

so it has no part in the game play at all if its so far away? and why is it needed on the table at all if it has not effect in game play? just asking.
except it could look nice.
I like the idea of using a whole side of a table as a planet. I'm making the whole thing with painted felt. and I have planed a big 6 player game to stop the Emps from bombarding a city on the planet.
Dac would be a great planet to add. But my play mat has a planet and moon on it.
I just want them to release that Endor playmat they had at worlds in a 6x3 format ![]()

It's effect on the game is the part I am still pondering. Yeah, there needs to be one. Else it's just window dressing.
I haven't even begun to attempt to fit a planet into the SWA scale. I believe it's a form of Log scale, but I won't swear to that. If I am correct, a planet would be a serious problem for the scale: in terms of my suspension of disbelief...
What the heck. Forget the scale, planets are fun! Even if it's only "That's what you are fighting over."
Yet another use for the 4'x6' mat. Planet token could be 6' long and 2" wide. you could then place installations on it. Bear in mind it takes a BIG gun to fire from the ground into space. Atmosphere could extend for say 5" beyond planet. Rules for capital ships in upper atmosphere would have to be worked out.
I think a good scenario would be to knock a hole in planetary defense coverage and get ships into upper atmosphere to begin planetary assault.

Set a circular token of about 12 inches dead center for the 'surface', have Med range be upper atmo, close be lower, and place installations as needed for direct strikes. Make the visual of the token a logarithmic depiction of the surface installations, like this.
Play in a sandbox and call it jakku?
Edited by Gottmituns205Second, new objectives buddies with ships. Space station that attacks. Missions a nice touch as well. Some nice ideas.
I would like to see models from FFG that come with missions.
Interdictor would be great, as would civilian freighters, transport ships, scum and villainy....
Agreed. If FFG released GR-75 Transports and Gozanti Transports, they'd have no place in the game at the moment because there's no way they could have enough firepower to justify their own existence. The GR-75 would have a squadron value and that's it.
On the other hand, if both expansions also came with an appropriate mission - say "Evacuation" with the GR-75 and "Convoy Escort" with the Gozanti, it'd make them work very well.
I agree that new missions could be interesting, and planetary assault/evacuation would make sense, but why does the planet need to be on the board, other than for show?
The ion cannon in Empire had long range and could affect ships beyond orbit it seems, have not investigated however, but a scenario could be: First player gets to set up after the second player, however one ship is stunned by ion cannon fire for the first round, and a 15 token is given for each turn you have at least one ship in the opponents setup area.Something along those lines.
I would really like to see some more scenario and campaign driven elements in the game. Planetary assaults have always been a favorite of mine. I mean who doesn't love the idea of D Day in space?

I think the GR-75 as a ship with, say, a squadron value of 2, and space for Boosted Comms might be interesting. It would effectively be using my activation to run squadrons, and it would be fragile. Give it, say, 1 red die for anti squadron, and maneuverability similar to the Raider, and it might be interesting.
Pack in a title like Demolisher. Squadron Command: you may activate some or all of your squadrons after movement.
I'd fly one or two of those.
