With the new titles,

Colonel Vessery+TIE/D+Marksmanship+Ion Cannon (41 points and room for a modification to taste)

As long as he is paired with a couple of TIE Advanced (with the sustained target lock thing) or with a shuttle or a bomber that can dish out target locks at long range, then Vessery can put out two attacks that are target locked and focused on most turns.

Low PS is way harder to land ATC on for tie Adv's.. so Ac would probably be better.

and while you're at it, drop the storm to colzet to assure your use of Target locks.

Markmanship effects all your attacks, so effectively it means Vessery pops MM for his action, and so long as an Advanced has a TL it means Vessery is getting two shots of Focus+TL (effectively). Sure, the Ion Cannon will negate one MM crits, but Vessery should spend most of the game rolling back to back three hits.

I actually like it: more so than Marksmanship on Maarek. Maarek gets his tasty crit from ATC, but honestly running him with something other than Predator is just screaming at his action economy...

I don't think its necessary (you won't need that much modification on your attacks all the time) and giving up the defensive focus will mean Vessery dies faster. I mean it works, but I personally would prefer outmanoeuvre or crack shot or good ol' VI on Vess. There's also the possibility of Ruthlessness now...

marksmanship + vess seems excessive for everything except Palp aces

not only does it provide no defensive benefit, but given he already has his TL and the nature of sub-3 cannons canceling all your dice upon hit, it seems very unnecessary on an already very expensive pilot
