Sensing Force use and other Force users

By Warl, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

At Times in the movies, and books/comic books, a force user would sense the presence of another force user, or they would sense the use of force.

I am not seeing in the rules if there is a way this is done? Or is it not represented in F&D.

If they have the "Sense" force power, is it just Automatic? is there a "range" to that sense?

Our GM has done it narratively the few times it's come up. Or with the big bads, my foresee abilities have shown us meeting/fighting whatever.

In my games I definitely include it, but I leave it very vague - "you feel a strange sensation" etc... It's a great way to add intrigue and suspense.

Since I couldn't find anything about it, I was thinking of having it be a passive perception (with force Sense as a Prerequisite) check where the range is based off the Characters Force rating and the Difficulty was based on the Opposed users Force rating and use of the Force.

Something like this.

force rating 1 = Short range

Rating 2 = Medium

3 = long

4 = Extreme

5 = Planetary short

and so on.

The Difficulty would start at 5 difficulty

Each Force Die used beyond the first would reduce the difficulty by 1 purple

Difficulty would be upgraded or down graded by the Difference in Force rating between the two. (Showing greater skill and finesse)

A character that Focuses on "looking" for force use would decrease the difficulty once.

It's probably something that they will expand on in a Career Supplement

Away from book. Does the full text of the Shroud talent from Shadow (Sentinel) not shed any light on this?

It does raise the question, but it doesn't answer how it's done.

This is part of what drew me to thinking about it. Along with players asking about it as well. yet the question is not, as far as i can tell, answered in any of the books. It should have at least been answered in F&D.

Based on the "Disturbances in the Force" box on page 291, I think you are supposed to use the Foresee power to detect other Force-users, which means you only detect someone as a Force-user when you are activelly looking at that person's future/present (which makes sense in the context of the movies).

In the pilot of Rebels, Ezra senses Kanan without trying, just as an indirect peculiar feeling.

I've just been using the Sense basic power to detect living things, with the caveat that the Force user needs to declare they are searching for any other Force users in the area. If they succeed, then they pick up the strongest Force user within range, but only that one Force user; it helps cover in game terms why Vader sensed Obi-Wan aboard the Falcon, but not Luke (who was probably FR 1 at that point).

Hopefully it'll be touched upon in more detail in an upcoming career sourcebook, probably the Mystic though Consular or Seeker are possible options.

A wizard did it (?)

By the movies, I would hardly come to that conclusion.

Darth Vader sensed "A presence I have not felt in a Long time"... Sensing Obi-wan, and Darth Vader wasn't Looking for any Force users, Had no reason to look for a Force user, Let alone look for Obi-Wan himself.

So no, your premise that it makes sense in context of the movies is completely off.
