Are we going to see an alpha strike meta?

APTs just got better. The biggest problem with them was getting that TL and the Focus to stack. Now the TL is not a problem anymore.

I need one more bomber but I like 4 x Scimitars with APTs, EM, LRS. Leaves you 4 points to upgrade two to Gammas or throw in a Bomb. Use that 4 straight to zoom into close range and start popping things quickly. Boom and Zoom all day.

Biggs ever has been and still is a hard counter to bomber lists.

All Bombers logged Biggs? No problem - just leave him out of range.

All Bombers logged not Biggs - bingo: here we are again.

And Kagi finally has a role.

You could lock 2 on Biggs and 2 on others, or reźlock if Biggs was left out.

Soft tactics can counter Biggs at least on paper.

Get the new Gammas and equip Deadeye+LRS.

But still - he is one of the best counters for the Rebels.

What's been one of the complaints on the boards lately about the meta? Regenerating shields! Poe, Miranda, and something with R2-D2 means you have every ship regenerating. Or even just a few ships regenerating shields is a pain. What's the biggest way to stop that? Kill a ship fast. Alpha Strike is the easiest way to kill shield regenerating ships.

I've been flying 4 x Scimitar Bombers w/ Homing Missiles, Seismic, and EM and been doing very well, even with me flying not the best lately. I do well even without LRS. I think it will greatly help me beat opponents.

One point is putting TL's on ships and they just run away. To start with, I never put all my TL on a single ship as it is now. If I can use a Focus for the attack, as well, then I will definitely not put them all on one ship. So.....what do you do then? Keep whatever expensive ship out of range because it has 2 TL on it? That might actually work better for me as the rest of my list can clean up your other ships. If it's an expensive ship, it's probably 1/3 of your list and you don't want to use it for a few turns? If I'm dead set on attacking that ship, the Tie Bomber has a great dial to keep you in front arc. A simple one bank with Barrel Roll will do wonders to keep someone in range. That's if I want to be passive and just almost sit in the same spot (but change facing). If I wanted to be aggressive and do a 2 bank with BR, you might have a hard time staying out of range, as well. If you haven't flown the Tie Bomber, you might be surprised at how effective it is to get whatever facing you want if you use the BR.

To me, I've been playing with the Alpha Strike meta and it works very well. If you get good with approaches and the Rule of 11, it's not that hard to get into a good spot. I mean, R3 in front arc is a pretty big area, especially when you can go 1 straight and 4 straight.

With some of these upgrades, I do see it possible to have a single ordnance carrier, though. I'm looking at Tomax Bren for that. He's a great pilot that can do a lot of damage in a single Tie Bomber. I think you will see single Bombers being possible with some of the latest upgrades.

I still don't rate Jonus. I had to use him before Extra Munitions, but he was a weak point in the list. Kill him and the rest of your Bombers suck. With EM and Homing Missiles, it's easier to just take him out of the list. Homing Missiles are better than Jonus, anyways.

I think there will be an alpha strike meta. 4 PS4 bombers with Homing Missiles, Extra Munitions, and Long Range Sensors is 100 points. Alternatively, Concussion Missiles + Proton Rockets (there's a million combos to think about).

This squad will tear a 4xTLT squad to bits, and will cause real concern to a huge number of other lists. I think it's the Imperial quad TLT list. Not umbeatable, but something everyone needs to think about for competitive lists.

I like that idea. Maybe switch to 3 bombers (PS2) and an ace like Soontir to be more flexible

Gammas and Brens firing homing missiles that ignore

1. range bonus

2. evade token

3. 1 evade result, essentially resulting in a better-than-wedge ability

w/TL + focus, you'll two-shot basically every rebel out there sans K-wing (9 health, but easier to kill afterwards)

Or stay at PS4 and bring Omega Leader as a counter-ace.

Oh, Omega w/ VI and Comm Relay for anti Ace.

Omega Leader imo needs PTL or Juke+ Relay for anti-ace duty

I'll never forget the day I stopped playing Wes

it was Wave 5, and ps 10 r3-a2 Wes was slaying Whispers left and right

then, someone wanted to play deathstar dash (super dash + jan oars for 5 dice)

Wes goes up, stresses Dash for 2 stress. Dash spends his focus for defense and Wes slaps off the TL. Dash is naked

Dash shoots, Jans for 5 dice: 5 hits

"Alpha Strike," the term, is much older than Battletech. It's not limited to Ordnance, either.
