Ships Unable to Move Due to Overlap

By Korrin, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked, I looked but couldn't find a solution in the forums.

Had a situation tonight where 2 ships became "stuck" as they were within 1 of each other and therefore, whenever either tried to move, they would overlap and reduce down to a temp speed of zero each time.

We played it so that effectively they just shot each other and kept ramming until one ship died, but it seemed a strange resolution to that situation - neither of us could get out of the situation even though we both wanted to!

Is there a rule to allow you to get out of this fix, or did we play it right?

It was, for reference, a Victory and an Assault Frigate, pointing head on at each other.

You played it correctly...

Unless one ship is able to perform a Maneouver to completely clear the enemy Ship, you will bump and ram and grind to death.

Its even better for you when your ship is also parked on a Station, and your enemy is not... Then you take half as much damage... :D

Remember though, that if you *do* speed up to Speed 2 with a Nav Token/Order, you will go down to 0/1 temporarily, but your speed is STILL two...

Which means if you speed up the next turn, the Assault Frigate may be at Speed 3, and with a Sharp Turn, it may be able to clear....

Of course, if it wants to stay and grind to death, then it can feel free to...

Thanks for the super fast response - really appreciate it.

Glad we played it right. As you can imagine, didn't end well for the Assault Frigate!

The game does become far more fluid as you practice and figure how to avoid such things or perhaps mean to....

When it's your Victory, this is basically the most ideal of solutions.

This is one of the key reasons why my first action almost every game is to place Navigation tokens on my ships. The ability to avoid an infinite ram, or to force a ram while I sit on the Outpost, is too valuable to ignore. And of course, it often also aids my maneuvers later.

I enjoy doing that so much, the look of disgust on my opponents face when they realise what's happening is priceless!
