Red Dice Win?

By BaBaBaBen, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Just getting started. Wondering if this would be viable to build?

(395)

Advanced Gunnery, Contested Outpost, Superior Positions

Admiral Ackbar (38)

MC80 Assault- Home One, Intel Officer, Engine Techs, ECM, Enhanced Armament (153)

Assault Frigate MK II B- Intel Officer, Gunnery Team, ECM, XI7 (99)

CR90A- Jaina's Light, Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (53)

Jan Ors (19)

A-Wing x3 (33)

Don't need Enhanced on the MC80, replace with XI7s or HTTs + Raymus.

Otherwise, looking good.

Agree with Hero on the EA. I'd swap it out for XI7, especially since you already have it on your AF2.

I'm personally of the opinion that, if you're running XI7's on one ship, you need them on as many of the rest of them as you can. Assuming you're not one-shotting your targets, one redirect that's not shut down can negate all the benefit of the XI7 on your other ships by allowing them to redirect that shot to a relatively unharmed facing.

So I think XI7's are, by and large, an all-or-nothing proposition. And given the state of things right now, I lean toward "all" in this kind of build.

I am wondering if, with things like intel, people still find these token defense forces viable at all?

Yes, because even if you use it once, it's game-changing.

I will swap out the EA for XI7 and go to 391. Maybe upgrade an A-wing to Tycho? I have no idea how much defense is actually required, I've been working on this list from the seemingly general consensus on here and other sites that you need at least some sort of squadron presence.

What does the full list look like now?

Maybe I'm reading something wrong. Intel means you are heavy, heavy mean you don't stop movement or firing at other ships. So, how is putting a few damage on a few bombers game changing? Assuming they don't also have escort.

Oh.. I thought you meant Intel Officer since you were referring to defense. But then I read forces, that makes more sense.

Intel is heavy for squadrons, not ships.

Right, so you jump your 3 A-wings into my bombers, and my intel squadron(s) and now your A-wings are heavy. So, I can just move my bombers along still shooting at whatever they were shooting at before.

I'm still confused on the point you're trying to make. Yes, Intel does that, it's a known fact.

Okay, redo.

The list has a few fighters in it to act as a screen or road bump or whatever you want to call it. They aren't there to take out bomber waves or special squadrons as the list has only a few of them. That worked fine before Intel became a thing.

My original question was then, do people still find that tactic viable (ie. does it work still) after the introduction of Intel as a keyword.

It seems to me that now you either go whole hog on it or learn to play without them.

Does the OP find them useful still, or has he not run into Intel so much.

I have not played the list so I'm not sure off the possible issues. What would you recommend to slow bombers over A-wings?

More A-wings, Jan, Han (don't let anyone lie to you, this dude is legit) Wedge/Dutch (only as a pair, and only if you are capable of keeping them alive) OR, 6 Nebulons and a #$% load of cutlery.

Basically tiptoeing around squadrons doesn't work anymore, did in wave one but Intel killed that. You either have to spend the whole 134 points on squadrons or don't bother at all. Which also, despite what people say is entirely doable, just takes loads of practice.
