No seriously. Tractor Beam did it.
It's going to, anyway. You're gonna' see a lot more Defenders, and you're gonna' see tons of Tractor Beams. So you're gonna' need a high agility arc dodging ship that can shrug off a Tractor Beam.
The A-Wing will become extremely viable by circumstance. Just, calling it here and now.
What are your thoughts? I know, it's ANOTHER tractor beam thread- but different..! Ish.
A-Wings: A New Hope
Probably only going to see Tractor Beams on Defenders, by and large. The expense of a ship's attack that can do no damage for an effect that won't last beyond the current round is basically exactly what I'd expect for a 1 point cannon. Defender's the only ship that can do a 1-2 punch with it.
Anything that can cut C-3PO's effectiveness even more is nice, although by this point he's fallen far from his former throne.
Frankly I think A-Wings have more to fear from tractor beams than most other Rebel ships, because it's going to be on Defenders. Who can do 2 attacks. Token stacking's not going to help so much when it's over 2 attacks, and reducing an A-Wing's agility is just the worst thing for it-- alternatively, spending tokens to prevent 0 damage from being done in order to keep the agility high is a frightful choice. Arc-dodging is a yes, and the A-Wing is indeed the best Rebel small base ship to do it. But arc-dodging's already a viable choice, and the A-Wing's autothrusters make nice insurance against TLTs anyways, so it's not like they're invisible as things are now.
But Rebels don't tend to live and die by their green dice the way the TIE series tends to. I don't think tractor beams are going to make a huge difference in the Rebel squads. Maybe push people more towards the VCX-100 (lol what tractor beam token). But that's an attractive ship anyways!
Scyks are the cheapest Tractor Beam platform. I can even imagine putting in two of them for 35 points if your other 65 points can bring enough pain. That gives you two chances to drop a green die or a chance to drop 2 green die.
Or you could use Latts to lower agility and then shoot the target with a tractor beam.
Defenders with Tractor Beams? Yes.
SCYKs with Tractor Beams? Now that's interesting.

Ya, nothing like paying 3 points for a possible -1 agility for just that round that takes place of your attack.
Not sold. Still. ![]()

On the other hand with Weapons Engineer Latts can debuff the target for his own attack so that's potentially helpful as a damage source.
But on the other other hand, tractor beam essentially HAS to be run on higher PS ships. No sense in hitting with a tractor beam with the last attack of the round. So Latts doesn't benefit from tractor Scyks unless you're paying for the Tansarii Point Vets.
There's always Swarm Tactics or Decoy. Have that 17 point Scyk fly close to your ace. Might potentially be a decent wingman for Talonbane or Dengar. Even if the cannon doesn't hit you'll probably strip away a token or two, or tire C3PO.

Oh they'll make a difference. B-Wings, YTs, HWKs, and Y-Wings will ALL see less play- *forcing* X-Wings and Z-95s even, into further play.
You want an X-Wing fix?
Endangering the others is certainly one way to do it. Bs and Ys won't last a second against TIE/Ds with Ion Cannons. Not. A second.
A-Wings really might be our best hope. They can outmaneuver TIE/Ds with autothrusters. Indeed, A-Wings with Proton Rockets might be the definitive TIE/D killer.
...But isn't that an interesting thought?
Missiles... Killing TIE Defenders...

Running bare minimum, that is 50 points. Your other 50 points had better be super hard to kill, and put out a lot of pain. Because the Scyk and the YV-666 aren't staying alive for too long, so you'd better capitalize on it while you can.Or you could use Latts to lower agility and then shoot the target with a tractor beam.

Weapon Engineer can't target the same ship twice so you're wrong about that combo with Latts.
I think Tractor Beem is going to be best with a swarm. The more dice coming at the lowered agility target the more value you get from it. Thinking:
2x M3-A: Cartel Spacer w/ Heavy Scyk + Tractor Beam + Hull Upgrade (20)
5x Z-95: Binayre Pirate
or tire C3PO.
C-3PO: Did you hear that? They shut down the main reactor. We'll be destroyed for sure. This is madness.
My defenders have never feared a-wings before don't see why they'd start now, I out flew a three a-wing list with tie advanced and Rexler just a few weeks ago.

Because now, now players will be using them in different ways for entirely different purposes,
I don't think A-Wings will stand a chance against TIE/x7s, but I do think they'll have a good, strong chance against TIE/Ds.
I'm just going to leave a plug for the big A-wing thread in the Squad Lists sub-forum, and encourage anyone who previously thought A-wings weren't that great to give it a read and potentially even try flying A-wings more often: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/184295-green-arrow-list/

Thanks. We need to encourage this- I honestly think A-Wings are the best shot Rebels have in this upcoming meta.
EDIT: And The Ghost. High agility? Tractor will hurt, but not THAT bad. No agility? Useless.
VCX-100/A/X should be what we're getting to use this next quarter.
Edited by Captain LackwitTractor Beam is gonna be great in Epic play. Aside from that, I'm imagining their best platform will be Defenders.
A-wings are already amazing thanks to crack shot and the best dial in the game.

Crackshot+PTL+Prockets sounds like serious fun.

Against the right builds, I have a lot of fun with Tycho, Jake and Poe.
