Tie Defender, the new terror in town!!!

By Knucklesamwich, in X-Wing

Defenders are going to be death incarnate for all low agility ships. Ion, primary, K-turn, repeat.

BUT WAIT!

THAT'S NOT ALL!

Tractor beam, primary is going to roflstomp high agility, low health targets too.

THERE'S MORE!

Points reduction and FREE evade token on fast manuevers and the Whit K-turn - maybe combined with Twin Ion Engine MkII - is going to make them THE beastmode jousters in the game as well.

As someone who respected the Defender's potential for brutality before this announcement, I would just like to say I for one welcome our new Defender overlords...

T-beams are one agi per token right?

and you have to hit with them first...

yeah, you're far better off with just Tie/x7 and juke

unless, ofc, T-beams do more and we can't read the rest of the text because Bren and Den-'s fat arses are blocking it

I honestly think tbeam with title is nuts because if you can force let's say soontir to spend tokens to dodge a 0 damage attack then your follow up primary is that much easier to push through. It gives high agility targets the choice of spending tokens to avoid having their agility nerfed or having their agility nerfed to allow plenty of tokens for the primary shot.

One agility, per token, to the end of the turn.

It's not only the Defender's second attack which will benefit. It's everyone who shoots at the same target after it.

You love Crackshot, right? Well, now imagine a Defender and Academy TIE mini swarm, where the Academy TIEs essentially get to benefit from a cheap, reusable version of Crackshot every turn... so long as the Defender's Tractor Beam hits.

it's not the same as crackshot

crackshot doesn't require set-up, just a good bit of damage to push through and bang

problem here is you have to push the same # of dice through the agility of a target you want to reduce in the first place, and you have to be high PS or some PS to set-up for your buddies

ignoring the context of Tie/D, which is ridiculous when taken out of context of the Defender, a no damage cannon that eats your attack just for -1 agility is just not worth it

it's going to do more, it basically has to if it's going to justify its inclusion anywhere

It seems pretty solid right now. Corran and brobots have something to worry about now.

I never said it was. I compared it's effects to Crackshot, which is a legitimate comparison, as they both reduce defense - Tractor Beam potential defense, Crackshot actual defense, but once only.

Amusing given your oft-expressed love for Crackshot and incessantly-posted hatred of green dice you can't see the potential benefit here.

We'll see. Give it six months, and we'll see.

they already did, though

that, and the fact that they absolutely loathe Ion/flechette respectively (unless you got two ion, then they both just start sweating)

well of course I'm intrigued, but the problem is quite simple

in order to ignore the hated green dice, you have to get through the hated green dice

a conundrum :o

looking beyond Tie/D, where it could be okay, it just seems so worthless. 0 damage for the chance that another attack may do an extra point of damage hardly seems worth it (outside of Tie/D, which essentially removes that drawback)

which is why I need to see the rest of the rules for it. Right now, my reaction is "that can't possibly be it"

It's much better if you have a swarm firing after you. If it's a 2-3 ship list it loses some luster.
