Defender Titles - Is This Enough?

By Stone37, in X-Wing

Just realised, Huge ship are gonna hate Defenders with Ion Cannon! 3 of those gives 3 damages, 3 Ion token (not garanteed, but with 0 agility, odds are pretty good) and 9 dice of damage... Ouch!!!

This also makes our two current Aces in the Defender cheap enough to include in a Palpatine + Escort list. The introduction of the Tie Advanced Prototype's Inquisitor as a relatively cheap Ace will open up a huge slew of combinations for Imperial Aces lists.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought when I came up with a 40 pts Rex. Add Palpatine and there's 31 pts left for the second wing. The Inquisitor should fit nicely there.

I was seriously considering

Lambda-Class Shuttle: Omicron Group Pilot (21)

· Emperor Palpatine (8)

TIE Advanced: · Darth Vader (29)

Predator (3)

TIE/x1 (0)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

TIE Defender: · Colonel Vessery (35)

· Lone Wolf (2)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Before but now im sold

I predict a whole lot of Rexlar with x7 & Lone Wolf.

Zoom in, boom 'em, flee to get your dice mods. Rounding up to 4 attack & Defense, with an Evade, makes it easy to afford the Focus token for super-crits when you get the chance.

The Evade is huge; because you can now afford to risk that Focus token. :)

x7 looks really good. Using Vessery with stealth/autothrusters and predator/lonewolf, you get an almost un-killable ship that can deal heaps of consistent damage. 2 evade tokens + 3/4 dice, and 6HP make it far more unkillable than soontir. Pair it with fat-deci or something with weapons engineer, and you can pump out 3 actions each turn. Average damage is 2.75.

D is a great answer to ghost who is too good at this point. Pump it full of damage while staying out of arc consistently. Might even force it to fly off the board.

This will make the Defender one of the best ships in the game, possibly the best. I would say its pretty overpowered.

Rexlar plus Lone Wolf equals happiness

Ahhh, unfortunately that combination is illegal in standard play. The Defender only has one Modification slot and no native Boost action. However, Stealth Device on its own does become more viable with the free Evade granted by speedy maneuvers.

It looks perfect. FFG does it again!

This is just really good.

Not going to lie, I let out a little, girlish squeak when I read this.

Maarek Steele in a defender? Double tapping? TIE Bomber updates?

It's like TIE Fighter Christmas! All we are missing is Vader in a Defender, then we could do Maarek/Vader/Emperor, with the former two in Defenders, right out of the game!

... did Vader fly a Defender? For some reason I thought he stuck to an Advanced for at least some of it.

It has been a long time, but I think Vader flew a Defender in TIE Fighter as a wingmate for a couple of missions.

Vader did fly a few missions in a defender to race Zaarin to protect the emperor. But with Vader in a defender with x7, ptl, and mk2, thats 4 actions a turn...

3 and a half if you have predator

I think it does great for Generics. I feel wishy washy about the named pilots though. HLC now seems as if it is punishment for running it on a defender, as neither title helps in that regard. It does however boost seemingly everyones favorite Colonel (not sanders XD), and it finally gives a reason to take Ion cannon or flechette on a defender. The only thing missing from this kit would be an extra pair of TIE mk. 2 modification cards.

still, a 41/42 point Rexlar that gets to shoot twice a turn is a whole lot better than a 45 point rexlar only throwing 4 dice once a turn. Overall a good move by FFG.

I just with the defender wasn't BRIGHT red, but I have some silver paint that will take care of that... ;)

The Defender doesn't have an evade action.

The action economy of the /X7 title is great, even better when combined with PTL for the aces (costly as it might be).

Nor does it have boost (ergo no authotrusters).

I LOVE this!

Thank you FFG!

I don't even play imps much but my 3 defenders will finally see the light of day again.

First sky is falling post?

Lol.

Rex is so expensive, he should be terrifying. To date (outside of epic) he really isn't.

But soon he will be great.

But we all know imperials can't have nice things...

Am I wrong in thinking the new defender is about the first genuine imperial control/toolbox ship?

Rebel captive anyone?

Rebel captive anyone?

What on? Duct taped to Vessary, frozen to death in the harsh vacuum of space..silently screaming?

Well, he was captive for a reason and deserved punishment. :D

Did they not have the Geneva convention in a galaxy a long long time ago far far away?

Maybe we are in for a long cgi fest where Han and chewie discuss ethics for 2hrs 10 minutes.

Vessery autothrusters

2 evade tokens

1. it has no boost to get Autothrusters

2. it has no evade action.

man, read some cards first :D

if I remember correctly (is it ~20 years already..?! :( ), vader was the -single- tie-adv pilot in "tie fighter" and did -not- fly a defender.

back in the day when the gras was greener and *yada-yada..old men talk*

;)

In some story he flew a Defender to protect the Emperor.

I hope FFG sets Maarek Stele to 29 points, realizing they overpriced the original Defender pilots by 6-7.

25 point generics is what we need to make a list of two Defender/x7 and two Defender/D.

If we get 27 point generics we could at least field 4x Defender/x7s.
