Defender Titles - Is This Enough?

By Stone37, in X-Wing

I really have no issue with them putting the same pilot in multiple ships like this.

It's almost like FFG is trying to sell us something....

I fixed that for you.

Not that I'm complaining, because I am definitly buying minimum of 2

No way around that, seeing as I have two of each already. But how am I going to fit in four Defenders?

Epic?

And is that Stele I see in the perview pic? Can't think of any other Imperial pilot with a name that starts with Maar.... this pleases me more than the title cards and the awesome new paint job on the Defender.

Does this make Stele the first named pilot with two ships (rather than a named pilot who also has a Crew upgrade) to fly?

The Ghost/Phantom has duplicate pilots, Hera to name 1

GAH, Okapi beat me to it

Ah, right. The Rebels (should probably give that show a shot once finals are done, or finish up seasons 6/7 of Deep Space Nine or....) gang have a duplicate thing going on to.

My pants have literally just flown right off. I'm too excited to even look for an appropriate animated gif.

We simply cannot have that.

With reference to Imperial Doctrine section 7b - put those pants back on right now pilot!

I'm a Scum pilot.

They've flown off out of sheer terror.

3x Onyx Squadron, 3x X7 title, 3x TIE MK II. 7 points left for upgrades.

Shame that X7 disables the missile slot, with a bunch of free points to play with I wouldn't mind putting missiles on them. Ah well, super excited still. May have to get 3 packs to get 3 red defenders.

Upgrade one of them to Vessery with Juke and Mk II.

Upgrade one to a named pilot and give him an Elite Talent. Job done!

Your ninpō is most impressive, Okapi!

Sets a precedent for Corran in an X-wing, though considering the number of other named Rogues I'd probably rather have Ooryl, Pash, Gavin, Aril, Inyri, etc...

Flechette stresses aggressors in one go; no red maneuvers

And it deals some damage when it hits, unlike the Tractor Beam. I can really only see running the Tractor Beam on higher PS Defenders when there are other ships around to take advantage of the Agility reduction.

It looks perfect. FFG does it again!

Pardon me, I'm off now to run around squealing.

Hold up.

Four days ago you said Kanan crew was overpowered and potentially game breaking. This fixes that?

less talk, more dance!

..and sorry, tokio.

BTL-A4 let Y-wings become Ionhogs, and hammer away at low agility targets. They were, and are, a thing to be feared.

TIE/D lets Defenders do exactly the same with an Ion Cannon... with an extra die on the primary, and range 3 on the Ion.

... Yeah, I think Ionfenders (Defioners?) will be just fine. :)

I will be the one Curmudgeon. The TIE/x7 title is still leaves the beloved Tie-Defender overcosted. If taking away cannons, the point value should be closer to -3 or -4 (see the team covenant http://teamcovenant.com/pcgamerpirate/2015/11/03/in-defense-of-tie-defenders-part-ii/). If still the title is still at -2 (instead of -3/-4) it should also increase pilot skill as well.

But Dear God I got my wish!!! Ferrari Red Tie-D, and driving it like I stole it. Any hope on a convertible model perhaps, so I can slow drive down the boulevard at Tashi Station? =P

Should be easy to proxy all of this stuff. I like defenders, but I am primarily a Corran fan. This changes the Rex/Corran dynamic considerably.

But it is a 3-4 point discount.

Not only does it give you a 2pt discount, it gives you evade tokens. Free actions/tokens is traditionally worth 3pts; the conditional on this one is strict enough it might be regarded as being 2pt (Much like Targeting Astromech or Outlaw Tech, it's a very specific set of manouvers that it's awarding tokens for). It's certainly better than a 1pt.

Et voila, it's giving you a 1-2pt buff for a -2pt price... that's 3-4 points, right there. :) Perfect for the not-loaded Defenders.

Yeah, the big plus for the Defenders over the BTL-A4 is that the canons are all range 1-3 so they don't have a range band where they don't get a second attack.

No it's minus two points and it gives you an evade token, it's better than -3 points because with PTL it gives rex three action economy that's hard to match.

It's turning the defender into that supercepter people wanted.

And helping at last with the perception that Defenders are meant to be /fast/, and they didn't feel it - HLC doctrine encouraged flying the things as slowly as humanly possible.

x7s now go very nearly as fast as humanly possible, trying to zoom in, open fire, then careen off to K-turn and make another pass. :)

I think I'll prefer to use it with Lone Wolf.

Rex + Tie/7 + Lonewolf + Stealth Device = 40 pts

Focus+Evade+Reroll+Stealth Device

Man it's been a long time since I've been this excited for an expension, there is just so much awesomeness in this little box! I never felt like the Defender needed a boost, that's just a lot of graavy!

On a ship with the Defender's dial the condition isn't actually all that strict. Almost half of the Defender's Maneuvers ( 8 out of 16 ) trigger the condition. It's probably easier to trigger than K4 or Kyle crew. This is easily the equivalent of a 4 point cost balancing.

I love how the titles play into the Defender's distinctive niche as a boom-and-zoom fighter - one option gives you more boom, the other more zoom. I could not possibly be more excited for this.

Should be easy to proxy all of this stuff. I like defenders, but I am primarily a Corran fan. This changes the Rex/Corran dynamic considerably.

That was my thought as well. If the ion goes through, Corran is just effed, so he has to spend tokens. This leaves him less defended against primary attacks. Rex will take some damage, get on Corran's tail, and then Corran will have to K-turn. When he does, it's game over. He's open to the ion cannon while stressed, and he might not unstress the rest of the game.

Previously, Rex could force enough damage that Corran would be able to put out very little offense, but time was on Corran's side, because eventually Rex would have a crap attack roll and Corran would have room to maneuver. Now a 1 hp Rex that lands an ion hit against a full health Corran might reasonably expect to never be shot at again.

One thing that I haven't noticed people mention -- and sorry if I glossed over it -- is how important the wording of that title is.

After a 3, 4, or 5-speed maneuver, assign an Evade token to your ship.

Predator Rexler, or Vessery with an appropriate wingman for TLs, now don't care about stress whatsoever. It opens up the possibility of 1-turns or K-Turning while stressed and still maintaining decent action economy.

And you can rush into a dogpile, ram everyone, and not care*!

Also makes the K-turn a safer bet - previously, a hostile block was a death sentence. Now, at least, you still get your token. I'm loving it for the insurance factor alone.

Not going to lie, I let out a little, girlish squeak when I read this.

Maarek Steele in a defender? Double tapping? TIE Bomber updates?

It's like TIE Fighter Christmas! All we are missing is Vader in a Defender, then we could do Maarek/Vader/Emperor, with the former two in Defenders, right out of the game!

... did Vader fly a Defender? For some reason I thought he stuck to an Advanced for at least some of it.
