Converting command dial to command token timing.

By Jaden Ckast, in Star Wars: Armada

Sorry for the newb question here but I've read thru the rules and looked online so I apologize if I missed it somewhere already.

Anyways I'm wondering when the timing for converting the command dial to a token takes place. The rules read "When a player reveals a ship’s command dial, he can spend the dial to place the matching command token next to that ship". Maybe I'm used to xwing where you look for "immediately" in the wording because to me this seems like you don't necessarily need to spend it immediately to change into a token once it's revealed. Is this the case or am I reading into it too much.

The reason I'm wondering is because also in the rules it talks about spending your command dial during the attack phase. So you reveal it then hold onto it and choose to spend it when you attack. But what if you don't spend it on your attack does it get converted to a token or do you just lose it altogether?

You Reveal the command Dial, and then you'll have to decide what to do with it... The first step of the activation is revealing, then you're basically at the point where you're going to resolve it most of the time.

If you don't elect to make it a token, and then don't spend it at the appropriate time (which for 3 out of 4 of them, is right then), then you lose it.

This is not a bad question!

This is also something that is commonly misunderstood. I've played in tournaments where people get to the navigate phase and decide "oh well I don't need the speed or click so i'll just take a token"...this is technically illegal...seen the same with CF where people realize they can't get the arc they want for their second roll and think they can take the token (you can't).

Ok that's what i kinda figured would happen. You have to decide right then and there, command dial or command token. Thanks for the nice replies guys I appreciate it.
