Imperial Veterans Expansion

By Engine25, in X-Wing

Good - that I waited with buying a defender and with buying a 2nd bomber. I had hoped for some pack like this.

Ion Defenders should be fairly strong against TLT Y-Wings. Get behind one, ion it, and it will never escape. Alternate banks to stay behind it. The high health and strong agility of the Defender should help it endure the wrath of the other Y-Wings, and you have other ships that can pour it on either the ion target or another ship as needed.

Plus that white K-turn never hurt after the initial volley to get behind said y-wing

Exactly. One or two Defenders in the right place can wreak havoc on a TLT swarm flying in formation. Ion the front two and then tear up the back two with range 1 primary weapons.

Its a shame the LRS is an and rather than an or. It would have been an inviting option to improve the abilities of several fighters to be credible missile or torpedo platform. Having a focus or evade as well as a target lock might have made a good fix for missles and torpedoes.

Miranda, long range scanners, TLT, homing missiles, extra munition, and perhaps advanced protons with Leebo.

Tl at extreme range, drop a 5 die missile with TL/focus at long range, then slam past and pick up a new Tl, regening shields when you dont have a missile shot.

Colonel Vessery will LOVE the TIE/D title.

His ability doesn't have a once-a-turn limit and it's not an action. This means that if his target is already target-locked (perhaps by a ship with Long Range Scanners?) he can acquire a TL for EACH SHOT .

I wonder if any of these are the cards suggested by the world champion.

Alex Davy said on stream after the end of the World's match that we'd see the card for 2014 somewhere in Wave 8, if I'm not mistaken.

Possibly Guidance Chip?

Swap that TLT for Autoblaster Turret saves points and is meaner to arc dodgers that can avoid fire otherwise.

Ok, we now have Marek Steele in Tie Advanced and Tie Defender.

In Spain we use to say " No hay dos sin tres " wich means " There are no two without the third " so all this could mean...

Marek Steele in....

XG1 Assault Gunboat!!!

Just spit balling awesome alpha-strike lists:

Captain Jonus

3x Gamma Squadron Pilot - Deadeye, Proton Torpedoes, Extra Munitions

Even 100 points if my math is right

Meh, a bit dissappointed in Maarek having the same ability on the Defender.

He's back to square one. If he equips a mangler, he can't use the new titles, so we have again the overcosted/weak defender problem.

And If he doesn't equip mangler, back to depending on unrealiable/expensive EPTs to trigger its ability, which is precisely what made him unpopular in the first place. Also, TIE/D is useless to him since his ability doesn't trigger with ions, flechettes or tractors...

That's the only single thing that doesn't make me happy in this pack.

Odds of getting a crit on three dice is much higher, he can take calculation for the crit as another option.

Marksmanship too, if he wants to use a control cannon before his primary. He'll be fine.

on the bomber, I see a *Den-...

Who is den-?

Dengar?

???

Yeah, Defender Maarek is kind of a dead man walking. Considering that you can have him in an Advanced with Predator and ATC for 31 points, which will do about the same damage or better at all ranges, the Defender version would need something really special to match it.

Odds of getting a crit on three dice is much higher, he can take calculation for the crit as another option.

Odds of getting a crit with an Advanced Targeting Computer is 100%, unless the enemy sheds the target lock or dies before Maarek can shoot.

People were thinking it was another Deathrain, but that theory has been convincingly shot down.

Marksmanship will be modifying 2 attacks per turn on a TIE/D, so I doubt 3 points is really that overpriced for it. If you're then running Maarek with a tractor beam, the first attack should hopefully use up the target's tokens or reduce their agility by one ready for his primary attack. This translates to more chance of his crit getting past the defences.

We'll see how it develops... But it would be a shame to be the 1st pilot that competes with itself and loses.

This is such an awesome pack. Love the red Defender and can't wait to play against more Bombers and Defenders. I like how they included two Titles for the Defender so you can either play it as a cheaper dogfighter or a cannon-spamming brute.

STELE IN A DEFENDER?@!?!?

Don't toy with me.

im just hoping man..

I can see *Maar- on one of the cards. Unless there's another Star Wars character whose name begins like that, I think Maarek Stele is a pretty safe bet, especially since the pilot skill is the same as Stele's.

It is also only 3 lines of text, not 4. And I see an N instead of an A, do you?

Stele will be fine - as either a slightly cost-inferior companion to Vessery (One TLs everything, the other Focuses everything, but look at that crit!) or, more likely, as the high-ish PS x7 pilot - give him x7 and Calculation, and he's a point lower than printed cost. X1 if you want him to shed stress, and he's printed cost and hunting eyeballs, with an Evade most rounds to stay intact.

He's more opportunistic than he is in the Advanced, which crits every hit against one pre-selected target ... with the Defender, with three dice and Calculation, he'll crit plenty regardless, but this time against anything in front of him. So long as he keeps his speed up, he's getting that Evade on defence every round as well, and has an extra shield backing him to boot.

The Advanced one is a dogged pursuer. The Defender version is a predatory opportunist who can't be chased. I'm not too stressed. :)

I think the favorite there is "Deathfire" McDibs.

^I'll have to check text lengths, it might just be "Deathfire", but I think you're onto something.

I'm hoping new Defender non-uniques include Interloper Squadron (Vessery's unit).

Gah....Interloper squadron? what a terrible name.....Stackpole is a fool.

Better than Eloper Squadron. They were constantly getting... engaged .

(I'll leave now.)

No, please stay, That was great!
