Seriously, nothing?

I'm sure FFG's RPG wing would rather complete all the source and career books for the Edge of the Empire and Age of Rebellion AND Force & Destiny lines before they go full speed ahead into other timeframes and alt campaigns.

There's something to be said about finishing the candy bar you're eating before you start unwrapping another one.

I agree with this at least regarding the career books. New eras would be sourcebooks IMO though maybe a little longer not full rule books. The rules, careers, and such would be the same all the book would need is an explanation of current events and factions, short descs of planets and regions and their alignments, and era appropriate hardware

I agree, but I wouldn't be surprised if they started adding era source books for each line after they wrap up the career books in that line. Really, they could look a lot like a region book. Fluff followed by races, equipment, ships, and adversaries with maybe some campaign seeds for what players could be doing that would be related to the events of the time but won't directly impact the major time period events.

It's really the only way to go. Adventures and sourcebooks once the career books are done. I still wish for a book of modular encounters though.

One of the quickest things they could do would be to do another "rebellion day" or "Free RPG Day" but focused on TFA era. A small adventure given for free that could generate interest in the RPG line and take advantage of the TFA hype.

Yeah I think the equipment section and vehicle sections would need to be expanded especially if they go into any of the Legends eras. There are a lot of ship classes in the OT era books which were in use during the PT era and I'm sure there are OT and PT era models still in use during the ST era though if any will appear in the movies is obviously unknown. The non-movie Legends eras would need Corebook size vehicle and equipment sections IMO if not a little larger.

I; just saying that a new generation of SW fans ripe for an RPG would be foremost on my mind were I the boss at FFG. Bet 'em while they're hot in time for Xmas

Seems to me the the game is doing well and there is no reason to change their format. FFG is inserting things from the upcoming movies where it seems appropriate and I think they will continue to do so. Doing any kind of dedicated book to the new movie would, in my estimation, be a waste of effort. Taking aspects of the new movies and inserting them into upcoming products, on the other hand, is a much better idea.

Well how many Supps are hitting the shelves now? Strongholds, Pirate Queen, Gatekeeper, and Guardians is now in the wild.... That's actually quite a bit compared to the usual FFG trickle...

Exactly what would they put in the book? Write it all up please. I think you are putting too much faith in J.J. and Disney having told FFG what is in the movie, or for that matter have seen the movie. Like I and others have said before, SW is notorious on keeping things secret and not telling even the closest to the films anything about what has happens until the last minute. FFG has nothing to do with the new movie, so why would they know what is in it to do a new book?

It's been said before that they know nothing sooooooo

They don't even know what's coming up on Rebels.

Models for table-top games can be cast in advance of a film if there's enough preview material to make a good sculpt. It's not like there's a risk of Resistance X-Wings and First Order TIE fighters not showing up in the film. However, books take a long time to write and edit. Given that films are often edited, re-written and re-shot almost up to premiere time (compare the trailer for Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull with the released film), coordinating that with the Lucasfilm story group would be impossible. Or, at least, so difficult that the financial reward wouldn't be worth the effort. Time is money.

I don't know if that hypothetical movie-goer who sees The Force Awakens, and who is suddenly motivated to play FFG's role-playing game, is going to be discouraged by the lack of TFA material. Is it possible? Sure. Is it enough to matter? Eh, not really. RPGs are so niche that they need to appeal to the biggest base of fans, not just appeal to what's hot right now.

I also would prefer era sourcebooks (Clone Wars, future movies, etc) with equipment, ships, new careers, etc. IF FFG MUST go with new rulebooks, then please let it by ONE book for the Clone Wars, ONE book for Ep 7-9. Giving us rulebooks for Ep 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 might* encourage me to hold an FFG book burning party under a paper mache of Vader.

*Well of course not really, it's my favorite game system, going for dramatic.

I am sure they would have loved to have been able to do so. But that would have required them having the info from the movie a year ago. as it takes about a year for a book to go through its full process. Given that the movie was not done a year ago and that FFG has been left out of the loop. No book. No matter how much they would have liked it. On the other hand they have a ton of stuff already available for star wars.

Having just seen the film (it was better than I'd expected) I'm pretty certain that anyone wanting to play in this era already has 99.99 % of what they'd need to do it.

There's absolutely no reason FFG would need another game line for it, and I'm scratching my head how there's enough differences to fill a sourcebook.

Seriously, x-wings and TIEs and stormtroopers and lightsabers and blasters are pretty much what they've always been.

Those very few things that differ, like a new melee/blaster, can be seeded throughout the existing lines easily.

I mean, I hate Rebels, but I'm perfectly happy with ships and gear and species from it showing up in the regular game, as we saw with the Ghost.

After leaving the cinema I stopped by a bookstore. I was curious to see what kind of books they had to tie in with the new movie. Turns out they don't have anything that ties in directly. There was plenty of Star Wars stuff, but it all centered around other eras. Big difference with Episode One's release when there were several guide books, a novelization, a comic. But this shows that FFG having nothing to release about Episode 7 doesn't make them the exception.

Speaking as someone who doesn't live in the US, and has only just managed to find a copy of Rescue at Glare Peak at an exorbitant price - for the love of all that is holy please *don't* do this FFG! I can only imagine how hard this supplement would be to get for me or anyone else outside the US!

Glare Peak was part of Rebellion Day and was decidedly not free. Under a Black Sun was part of Free RPG day, and you can DL it for nada here on this site. I think Black Sun is what kaosoe is referring to mostly.

Oh sure, something that is available as a free download online? That would be fine. But something that is only available via retail channels in the US would suck big time, especially when I imagine it'd be incredibly popular.
