Obligation, Obsession

By bilosta, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi all, i am new player for this RPG, we start play last week and we have one session till now. So I play bounty hunter Droid. For my obligation I roll Obsession. GM and I could not find in core book anything about obsession. So is it up to player and GM to make up some obsession for character that will be his drawback in some situation? or there some examples in the book? And if player need to make up his own, did anyone have some idea?

Thanks in advance.

Obsessed with self improvement? With upgrading your frame in pursuit of perfection?

When it comes up maybe you're glitching because the latest targeting software you've downloaded isn't 100% compatible.

Obsessed with becoming the best BH, finding a family member's killer, the list goes as far as your imagination.

A fun obsession for a bounty hunter might be a target that got away / evaded you when you were first getting started. Maybe the target really humiliated you with their escape and has blew your chances of making it big or working with your preferred client. The GM could drop hints / clues to their whereabouts or the target could send cronies to take you out for trying to get him.

Or maybe somewhere is the biggest bounty of all, and your character is constantly chasing after it to their detriment. A Jedi Outcast who's smarter, stronger, wiser, and faster than you and the Empire. Yet you cannot bring yourself about stopping the chase and drop everything whenever you find anything force-related or hinting at this character's background.

Maybe you have a borderline insane obsession with collecting trophies from your targets or leaving a 'calling card'. This would cause a lot of problems with guards and enforcers and there'd always be a trail of evidence pointing towards you. This could lead friends and allies of previous targets to hunt you for revenge.

thanks for ideas, i will try to think of something.

A player in my future EotE run wants to play an Assassin Droid aswell, however it is badly damaged as it is almost 4000 years old and its Obsession is to repair itself.

This will be finished until he reached peak efficency, at 100% and after that he will brag how he is the best Assassin in the Galaxy the whole rest of the Campaign ;)

How about...

Obsessed with becoming a meatbag? Like Pinocchio. He wants to be human (or Rodian or whatever). You might imagine that he'll discover replicant droids like Guri and hope he can have his sentience transferred into such a construct... or your GM might come up with something more fantastic. In a setting with weird magic Force effects, the right arrangement of kaibur crystals and the proper energies could make anything possible...

Obsessed with droid rights. Even the staunchest anti-slavery activists fail to realize that droids are enslaved everywhere in the galaxy. Even droids, themselves, are programmed to be willing participants in this arrangement. An independent-thinking, free droid like your character has a chance to look in on this situation from the outside and he doesn't like what he sees. There may even be others with the same perspective as your character... maybe they're organized... and waiting...

I had a droid with a minor obsession for self-improvement. That came out more about because of how I role-played him than anything written on the character sheet, but it worked out reasonably well.

I would keep buying electronic gear like various types of goggles or other devices and take them apart and then integrate them into his chassis. So, my LE-series Repair Droid accumulated a number of different ocular enhancements, various datapads, the Tranlang V Holo-Translator verbobrain, a whole set of Recon Remotes that he always had in constant circulation on the ship or otherwise near him, etc….

And because of some of the crimes that he had been involved in perpetrating, his “guilt chip” and his “Nega Drive” were getting very heavily used. And his paranoia was definitely creeping up there.

I was thinking, that Bounty hunter may be obsess to have piece of equipment of every bounty hi killed. Or maybe that he obsess to leave hit personal mark on every kill (like Zoro) so he can be fame bounty huter. That can be very difficult in some situation, so he can get in trouble from time, to time.

Obsessed with finding and meeting (or killing) his maker.

Perhaps he will never truly see himself as free if his maker is still alive.

I really like this one. That's just an absolute gift to the GM.
