Help taking off paint.

show results when done - thanks

Simple Green has always been terrible for me. Takes a long time to soak, still have to scrub with a toothbrush for a long time, stains the plastic black-grey, and noticeably weakens the plastic.

I've had the best results using Super Clean. It's a biodegradable automotive degreaser that you can find at most auto parts stores for, pretty cheap. Just soak the minis for 12 to 24 hours and use and old toothbrush and water to clean the paint off, if,you find you're having to scrub hard, soak a bit longer.

Note that I've only tried this on acrylics, never have used it on enamel.

I've stripped a lot of minis with it, and none of those things have ever been an issue.

Although I'm new to this game, I have been painting figures for many years.

I would suggest isopropyl alcohol 90%. It is very safe for plastics, will remove most paints given some time. Be patient, you can use an old toothbrush to scrub out recessed areas. Just put the alcohol in a cover container no let the mini soak.

You can reuse the alcohol bath many times, too. I have used this method many times and it has never failed me.

It is the safest way to remove pint from plastic.

Good luck!

Dettol has always worked well for me (removing Citadel paints) but doesn't touch the FFG paint underneath, let along harming the plastic.

Edit: Oh, and we're on the Imperial Assault thread, so there is no FFG paint underneath.

I keep seeing Dettol everywhere but there are many types and nobody had specified the correct one.

Could someone clear this up? What kind of Dettol should I be looking for?

I used to use Pine Sol, but I had a batch of tough ones and the Pine Sol was not doing the trick. After 2 2-day soaks, the paint was still coming off like bubblegum and not all the way.

Switched to Simple Green at that point - after 6 hours I was easily able to get the plastic almost clean with no detail loss. Of course the Pine Sol was doing work, but I was very impressed with the non-diluted Simple Green.

That'll be my go-to from now on...

Simple Green. Soak overnight in a zip lock bag. All of the paint and most of the primer will come off. Use an old toothbrush to work through the figure. However, reading previous comments, Super Clean may work better.

I used a concentrated solution of Simple Green, picked up at Home Depot for $9 (for nearly a gallon). Soaking minis in that for just a few hours does the trick for me. Seriously just wipes right off. It has to be the concentrated solution though.

Good luck!

I use it too and I agree.

I have never in my life had that experience with it.

Hello Guys!

Pls forgive me to reopen this subject but is Dettol helps with Varnish as well?

My wife became a very good mini painter now but she dont like her first works now.

So i decided to suprise her with either a new box or with removeing the paint from the figures she hates now.

She works with citadel and some otther acrillic paint and used Army Painter non-shine Varnish.

Will Dettol Works?

Thank you for your time.

I know that super clean will remove the paint and varnish as well. Have done that with my miniatures and it works perfectly. If Dettol is anything similar to super clean it should as well. I have not seen it in any of the stores where I live.
