B-wings?

By Sir Orrin, in X-Wing

Hey everyone!

I have two B-wings, and I have no idea what to do with them! They are just SOOOO expensive, and I have no clue how to fly them Properly, but I don't think any ship is useless. can I make two work? Or do you need more to make it work? Obviously Bwings aren't so hot in the meta right now, but maybe we can figure some stuff out! ;)

The aces are soooo exspensive, but 2, plain old, unmodified, 22 point, Blue squadron pilots will tear through a lot of ships before all 16 of their hit points are gone. They can be put in with a lot of other ships for a great list.

Oh yes you can make two work. For one, that barrel roll is amazing. Don't be afraid to let them get hit either- that's what they're supposed to do. They can win fisticuffs.

You don't HAVE to run E2s either. That just makes them even more expensive- but versatile. I expect The Ghost's Crew will be quite nice to have aboard an E2.

I honestly believe that the best outright fighter IS The B-Wing. It can take a myriad of upgrades, really only losing out on missiles and bombs.

Bwings are vicious against ships. Their movement is lacking but if you follow these 3 steps:

Step 1: get the bwings on target.

Step 2: ????

Step 3: profit.

Edit: oops. Thought i was in an armada thread. Ha..

if you just bought the expacs, Blue Squadron + FCS is one of the most reliable generics there is

Daggers ain't bad right now either.

If you're going to use an ace, just use one. Farlander and Ibtisam are probably the easiest to use right now and are just going to get better with the new crew options.

Now that Biggs is coming back with IA, I think Biggs protecting Bwings are a fully valid option. And now that Mangler cannon is around and evade tokens adding dice results, Ten Nunb seems awesome with his uncancelable crit.

It's only on one, but Sabine just made the bwing a bomber

And now that Mangler cannon is around and evade tokens adding dice results,

come again?

Is that Tie fighter? Man I gotta get this game....

So the token adds a defence result to your roll, this counting as a rolled dice. So crack shot can get past it, and so can Autoblasters and Ten

(Side note: I just noticed FFG gendered it's rule book. Bad FFG.*shakes head in disapproval*)

As an Imperial pilot who is feeling nice, I will offer you this one piece of advice OP.

FEAR. THE. OUTMANEUVER.

You have one agility. Losing it hurts. Primary weapons will tear through you, but your worst enemy is ion cannons. if an opponent outmaneuvers you with them, then not only can they hit you easily, but they also have a good chance of saving any focus token or evade token they might have, because they know you can't evade. And while there are other ships that this is true of (Y-wings, Falcons, etc.) they both usually have a way of contributing even if they're pointed the wrong way in a fight. B-Wings don't. In fact, it's even worse because most people put a cannon on their B-Wing, so the opponent can easily lock your ship and it's cannon into the wrong direction. That's usually 30 points just pissing into the wind right there. My advice? You take an HLC to anything with outmaneuver.

Well sure if we're using the real source material.

I meant in this tabletop.

The older core rules stated that evade tokens "may be spent to remove one hit/crit result" but the new core rules state "When defending, the ship may spend that token to add one additional evade () result to his defense roll."

So the token adds a defence result to your roll, this counting as a rolled dice. So crack shot can get past it, and so can Autoblasters and Ten

ok, that's what I figured you meant, thanks for clarifying! :D

Always a good ole list to use as a standby when your head hurts and cant list build for a game

Blue Squadron (B Wing)

Blue Squadron (B Wing)

Fire Control System

Blue Squadron (B Wing)

Fire Control System

Prototype Pilot (A Wing)

Chard Refit

Prototype Pilot (A Wing)

Chard Refit

Total Points: 100

Still a solid list to this day and makes a player learn to not rely upon PS and actually have them fly the ships themselves

2 daggers and 2 blues all with FCS are not to be trifled with. Nothing wants to be in the firing arc of all four if flown together as a squadron.

That was always a very popular tourney build, yeah? I feel like I've seen a lot of videos of that squad, including a mirror match.

Interceptors with the RG title can be the bane of B-wings. Especially that wraith Fel. I suffered a loss by the "death of a thousand cuts" vs 3 interceptors. I killed one (lucky dice) but the other two danced around outside my firing arcs and picked me apart.

As they were designed to.

I used to fear builds that were all B-Wings. Now they fill me with glee. It's the builds with only one that tend to give me trouble.

Bs love knife fighting! The 2k and tight turns are great except when fighting arc dodgers flown very well. I agree that one B in a list can be more of a pain than 4.

One of the big strengths of the B-Wing is the system slot. As many have mentioned, the FCS (fire control system) is a great option. Advanced sensors can also be very good; it lets you hide behind an asteroid and barrel roll out before moving or lets you take a focus when you're going to bump. It also makes it very hard to block the 2k turn.

Sensor jammer is also a lot of fun, though usually with some blockers to help deny the opponent their ability to focus.

I use dash with 2 basic b wings. Currently 10-2 with it! The bs do a lot of heavy lifting in that list

-heavy breathing-

I suddenly want very much to challenge this list…

Poor, poor gunboats... :(

And in this game, the TIE Defender cannot even carry those Advanced Proton Torpedoes in your GIF.
