SW Rebels new fighter maybe

By Filter, in X-Wing

Why are we even talking about the prequels? This ship never showed up in the prequels. It showed up in Clone Wars and by the looks of things will be showing up again in Rebels.

B-b-bu-but it HAD SOMETHING VAGUELY TO DO WITH THE PREQUELS SO I HATE IT FOREVER

Yeah, it's a bit crazy isn't it?

To let your hatred of something that's basically 6:30hrs in total, carry on for this long, SO long even, that it carries on into the next generation of Star Wars..?

All those people who call Yoda, Luke, Obi-Wan their hero...

They'd be so disappointed.

So watching the Rebels marathon on Disney XD and they keep repeating a teaser for next season or whatever it is with the start in January. It shows Hera, Sabine(flying A-wings) and an A-wing I assume is a Pheonix. They're being chased by what I also assume is some sort of Mandelorian fighter. The wings spin around in one shot and seem fixed in another. Looks like Scum could get something from the show if FFG looks into it.

Something else I noticed in that commercial was the A-Wing flown by Hera was all grey with red tails. Just like this P-51:

Red+Tails+P-51+Tuskegee+Airmen.jpg

This fighter was a member of the 332nd Fighter Group, which consisted of the 99th, 100th, 301st and 302nd Fighter Squadrons. They also went by another name....the Tuskegee Airmen, the first black fighter squadrons ever to fight in the US Armed Forces.

I believe Red Tails was the name of the last movie Lucas made. About the Tuskegee Airmen. IT ALL CIRCLES BACK AROUND!

(InB4: when will the P-51 be in X-Wing?!)

Considering the P-51 was less than a century ago, and the battle of Yavin was a long time ago, I'd say it's too much of an era difference.

It's official. P-51 is newer tech than GCW era ships. :P

OMG!!!! P-51 iz borked OP. FFG plz nerf

But, with that in mind, I would also be opposed to MASSIVE timeline dents, like an Old Republic ship, which has not been replicated in more "current" Star Wars timelines, being in the game as well.

I would really like to see an Old Republic ship as a totally f**ed up, massively beaten down and all-over-the-place-patched-up heavily weathered rustbucket flying for Scum.

Not having seen the teasers, it isn't the http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gauntlet_fighter by any chance, is it?

It was blue and white colored like the write-up in that entry but I don't think it's quite the same shape. Never saw a single episode of the CW and the entry didn't mention it spinning around like it did in the teaser.

Eh, Ooryl Qrygg's my hero...

The vars wars of religion lasted hundreds of years; fanboi hate dumb is eternal.

the first true canon appearance of The Hound's Tooth, was prequel era.

Lo and behold... Here it is. In XWMG.

Actually, the first true canon appearance of the Hound's Tooth was in Tales of the Bounty Hunters, published in 1996. It was considered canon back then, since it was in a published work, and it's considered an OT-era ship even if it appeared in TCW, because Bossk was introduced in the OT. The same can't be said of the N-1, the ARC-170, V-wing, etc. because they are exclusive to the prequel era. Also, the Z-95 in the Clone Wars wasn't the same ship as seen in the XWMG. It's a much older ship that is, frankly, uglier than the original design that was based off X-wing concept art.

You can see now the N-1 in The Return of the Jedi:

naboo2004.jpg

I'm sorry, but it's the only image I found of them.

FFG has tons of EU material.

For Fett Sake, give us Rihkzyrk already! xD

It takes a brave man to try to stem Prequel hate with Remaster hate. :)

What on earth does time have to do with whether you hate the prequels or not? They were terrible movies a decade ago and they remain terrible movies today just as they will be terrible movies in a hundred years.

They don't suddenly become good movies just because they are now old.

That said, the reason they were terrible movies had nothing to do with the ships in them, though I personally don't like the Naboo fighter. I'd like to see them released at some point and they no doubt will when FFG runs out of ideas.

Eta-2, V-wing and ARC-170 show up in imperial colors I multiple OT stories and media and everyone goes crazy.

Slave 1 is all over AoTC and no one bats an eye.

This new teaser has made me want several things:

A phoenix squad box set of three a a-wings, at least one in the phoenix leader green.

The new mandalorian fighter.

Prequel hat(t)er: "Wanna know how I got these scars?"

Most prequel ship hate comes from Episode 1, where the Naboo ships got so much hype and were so gaudy and out of touch with the aesthetic of the lived in world Star Wars has always provided. Those designs make people extra critical of later ships in the series. It doesn't help that the next majorly hyped ship was a bit boring (the Delta-7) and to be honest, I find most of the Episode 3 stuff to be a little overdesigned. The ETA-2's actually a solid little ship that slaps TIE fighter wings on the side to try and look like an evolution, but makes both it and the ARC look more like uglies than engineered designs.

How? It's movie hate, not old ship hate. Maybe I'm just being obtuse.

Many of us don't understand why movie hate trumps cool ship love.

Man, the best reason to watch the prequels is to see the cool ships do cool things.

Generally, movie hate doesn't trump cool stuff. If it did, we would not have access to seismic charges, and Imperial Assault would not feature a monster from the Geonosis arena.

It's probably a business decision based on the direction the wind is currently blowing. In a few years, the prequels might be loved because of their lavish visuals, layered story and ambiguous theme. Then we'll have our prequel ships.

I personally like the clone war era ships, with the exception of the naboo stuff - and that, really is exactly because of the reasons LunarSol described. They wern't worn and junky, they were shiny and felt too CGI-y.

I've gotten over this.

I have oft maintained that I'd be ok with prequel era ships in XW, even more clony backstories. (One project I am sure i had mentioned was a bunch of clones going rogue with an Acclamator and a bunch of ARCS/Torrents/V-wings.) Course the rapid aging thing would have to be addressed.

Or alternatively Imperial reserves, post order 66 imperials, Pre rebel built fighters, stolen old republic tech used by pirates and mercenaries etc etc etc etc etc.

The point is, justifying more or less ANY ship from the EU is redonculously easy, however prequel hate is prequel hate. I get it, really I do. It took me a LONG time to get over the prequels. I personally think they should be in, especially as current ships in the game cover essentially two versions of the 30 year future with E-wings and T70s. Especially as some fugly ships (K wings and Punishers) are in game now.

Others do disagree, I know, I've had this debate on this board.

Some hate the designs.

I say we've had worse already.

Some feel like it'll dilute the GCW era feeling. T70s, E and K wings, TIE-FO. Even TIE-INQ and now the ghost are pre GCW really.. kinda...

Some cling to an interview where Alex Davey said "GCW going forward" and swear by gospel. Eh fair enough.

I think they are wrong, they think I am wrong.

I still want XG-1 Assault gunboats first.

If your a true Star Wars fan you accept Episode 1-2 and 3 for what they are, another Star Wars story put on film for us. Good or bad I'd rather have as many stories as possible on film to watch this saga we all have grown to love. Otherwise it's like your just a bandwagon Star Wars fan.

Let's say Disney makes 40 more Star Wars movies in my lifetime. Yes some will be garbage some will ok but then there will be a handful that are as enjoyable or as epic to watch as the original trilogy.

Please, don't use a no true Scotsman fallacy:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman

You can be a "true" Star Wars fan and like or dislike whatever you please. No one has the right to dictate what others do or do not enjoy.

The Star Wars fan base is as large and diverse as the Star Wars Galaxy. Everybody should be able to enjoy it the way it makes them happy. If that includes exorcizing less popular elementsfrom their headspace, then so be it.

Yeah, it's a bit crazy isn't it?

I didn't say they suddenly got better.

I said people need to let the f**k go of their hate. Again, it's like the Star Trek fans who can't accept new ideas- they'd make awful additions to Starfleet even though they probably believe they're fit for duty.

It's a galaxy with hundreds of thousands of civilized worlds.

Do people really, honestly believe that everything should follow the same aesthetic?

Because ****, a B'rel Bird of Prey looks NOOOOTHING like a Constitution Class, but I don't hear people b**ching about that.

Maybe I should add V-19 TORRENT to my immediate list of wants. It's not in the prequels and I don't hear anyone hating on it particularly but I wants it! It reminds me a bit of my beloved GUNBOAT, folding wings and all.

Um, where's the warp nacelles on the Bird of Prey? And the oversized exposed guns/disrupters. That thing looks like a scum SW ship if I ever saw one.

There now someone said something about a trek ship.

Hmmm, I wonder if the old micro machine will fit on an x-wing peg...

I said people need to let the f**k go of their hate.

But being able to revel in the hate for something so terrible is the one upside that the prequels gave us. If we lose that then there's nothing but pure misery!
