Can Squadron attacks be obstructed?

By Cuthawolf, in Star Wars: Armada

Maybe this is a colossally stupid question, but can fighters have their own attacks be obstructed? Like if X-Wing A is attacking TIE/ln A and TIE/ln A is inside an asteroid field, does the X-wing lose a die? And if so, if the TIE/ln attacks during its activation, does it lose a die shooting out of the obstruction?

Indeed.

Furthermore, if Line of Sight in obstructed between Squadrons, Those Squadrons Do Not Engage Each Other.

They MAY shoot with the reduction in Dice as normal, However, they are not required to... One may simply fly off, barring any further engagements elsewhere.

Obstructed

An attack is obstructed if line of sight is traced through an obstacle token or another ship that is not the defender. If an attack is obstructed by one or more ships or obstacles, the attacker must choose and remove one die from his attack pool before he rolls dice during the “Roll Attack Dice” step.

• Squadrons do not obstruct attacks.

• If line of sight is drawn over an obstacle, the attack is obstructed even if the bases of the attacker and defender are touching.

Squadrons do not obstruct attacks, but there is nothing stated that Squadrons are not subject to it.

RRG, Page 6, "Engagement"

• If line of sight between two squadrons is obstructed, those squadrons are not engaged even if at distance 1 of each other, though they can still attack each other.

There's the big kicker for you.

Yes.

Squadrons themselves do not obstruct attacks, but their attacks CAN be obstructed, losing a die in the process.

Also worth noting: If two squadrons are on the same token and LOS is drawn over the token, EVEN IF THEIR BASES TOUCH, they are still obstructed. Fighting in asteroid fields is apparently tough to do.

Thanks very much guys. I knew they could disengage, but for whatever reason my brain hadn't fully clicked in to the lost dice thing.

it makes using terrain for your bombers to hide in before they strike fantastic, also luring your enemy to fight over the station can be huge

yup had a friend set his B wings in the rocks and when he opened fire on a ship he got a bit put out when I pointed out his shots were obstructed even when shooting out of the rocks. he still has to shoot through them. :D Bit of a two edge sword taking cover in the rocks.

But at least B-Wings can do it. The rest of the Wave 1s have their attacks nullified.

On a slight tangent:

As ship bases cause an obstruction, where an opponent moves his ship over a big swarm I have been known to put my squadrons on his port and his squadrons on the starboard.

Don't feel too bad, this is a surprisingly common misconception.

People get confused because they read "Squadrons don't obstruct" in the rules and the brain makes it "Squadrons don't get obstructed" when remembering it!

Thanks to wave 2!!!

Officer: almirant the space station is shooting us.

Almirant: what?

Officer: we catch some signals.

<...he he he he... shut up and shoot Boba... you don't give me orders Rhymer... not orders not money... okay okay...>

Joist add an addendum to previous posts, the Dosage Station token also counts as an obstruction even though it had a positive benefit.
