Assault Missile Clarification

By Deagles, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Attack [Target Lock]: Spend your target lock and discard this card to perform this attack. If this attack hits, each other ship at Range 1 of the defender suffers 1 damage. Attack: 4. Range 2-3.

Just want to clarify this.

1-If I roll the 4 dice and say 3 hits. Defender rolls for defense and say 1 Evade. The remaining 2 hits become 2 damage applied to each ship at Range 1 of the defender?

Or

2- Does it matter if there are 3 hits, no evades...only 1 damage per ship at R1 of the defender?

The defender suffers whatever uncancelled damage remains after all dice have been rolled and modified.

If the attack hits all ships (both friendly and enemy) within range 1 of the defender suffer 1 damage.

Okay...understood.

If the Assault Missile "hits" it only deals one damage to all ships within R1 of the target.

Note that this does not care how much damage the missile's target takes. If fired by Lt. Blount the attack automatically "hits" even if the defender manages to cancel all [boom] and [kaboom] results. Here the missile's target may take no damage at all yet everyone around it still will take damage.

Ooooo...I like that idea with Blount...very nice. But makes you wonder if its really worthwhile taking...it is 5pts. Could be worth it...not sure...maybe worth a try one day.

Depends if your opponents generally fly a lot of range one swarm / synergy lists. It's a great way to break them up, with even just the threat of getting splash damage.

will take damage.

All depends on your opponent. If you're facing Howlrunner swarms then it sure could be. Fighting a fat, two ship pair then probably not. The Mag Pulse can be a lot more useful as it always hits for one damage and 2 ion tokens no matter what the rolls are.
