Hi everybody.....
What can I put on Vader to make him good but I don't yet have the raider ( my birthday is right after Christmas
)?
I'm thinking Engine upgrade and something like calculate (-tion?), is that gunna do the trick for now?

predator.
outmaneuver.
but still nowhere close to Adv targetting computers
Vader awesome with engine upgrade and those EPTs mentioned above.. I also like to throw adrenaline rush for those surprise moments.. Also a new one for fun might be lightning reflexes.. Yes it's a one shot but it can be a game changer..
When I have adrenaline rush on him I also run prockets, I love the look on an opponents face when you do a k turn behind them and unload 5 dice of death with a TL and focus to use... And if you have PtL on him... 3 actions.. Maybe a boost or barrel roll into position..
If you don't want to proxy him (which you should! He's awesome!) then I recommend you run him with prockets to give him some teeth. My money's on Predator or VI, personally.
What is the first thing that springs to mind when thinking about Vader? Well, apart from the heavy breathing, the mask, the black leather and the lightsaber. Vader is Ruthless.
Ruthlessness is one of those upgrades people don't take very often, but it's very nice to tap one of those pesky arc dodgers that are too slippery for instance.
What you need to do is keep your other ships away from the defender.
.
Oh, and we're expecting to see Biggs back in action soon, what with IA, and the Ghost for instance.
Shoot him AND hit your intended target, what could be better?
Disregard the raider, acquire proxies

they print well on card stock or you could use photo paper.. Just can't use it in tourneys ...
I'd buy (or proxy, if you're not concerned about tournaments) the X1/ATC singles. I've seen them for $10-15. Check ebay and the team covenant store.
I do want to take a Vader build to a tournament next February but I just want to practice with imperial until then, I'm used to playing rebels and a bit of scum. I will definitely get the raider (I like juno) its just time. I really want the practice.
If you want practice definitely proxy x1 and ATC. Those cards on Vader are money. That way you won't be scrambling for practice once you do get the Raider.

Fair point.
proxy.
at/before a tournament, ask a pal if he could lend you the 2 cards. it's what pals are for (as you -should- lend your stuff to good pals yourself).
if no pal, ask some guys you know. most xwing-players are very nice and kind chaps. you can always pay em back with a beer afterwards ![]()
once the raider arrives, it's all good ![]()

I think everyone that has said proxie is probably right, It's not something I'm used to doing. Until the raider is in my hands I'll just practice with a proxie.
So mini swarm or elites to put with vader, quick show of hands.
Edited by Spaceman91Depends. Do you plan to get the Gozanti?
I'm not sure on that one. I'm kinda on the fence but is the old school Howlrunner + friends up to points not really worth it anymore?
I'm not saying that! But the new pilots increase your flexibility and synergize rather well with Howlrunner in several cases.
I'm much more a fan of filling with TIE fighters than the rather tired Interceptor aces. Now if you've got multiple TIE Advanced? I really like two Advanced and then mini swarm fighters.

I like your style Sir (waves overly posh hat) I may have to try that
I want more people to take Outmanuever and Ruthlessness instead of VI.
I run outmaneuver from time to time, maybe I'll sleave up ruthlessness next. Sounds fun if a little genocidal.

I fail to see a problem with that (insert evil laugh here )Sounds fun if a little genocidal.
pishposh
it's not genocidal if it's indiscriminate!
I know people are going to boo and malign me for this, but I always loved totally decking him out with Engine Upgrade, Concussion Missiles, and Marksmanship. He's the only ship in the game that can get true economy out of that. It also turns him into an arcdodging fiend like Soontir, but without stressing from PtL. Also, it can make your one missile hit truly game changing, since one blank can turn into a hit, and you can Tl and Marksman in one turn. And if you happen to have the TL from another turn, then he can Marksman and evade, making the missile devastating while not losing out on some defense.
EDIT: I saw someone mention Biggs, and I used this build when Biggs was very popular, so I'll just add that the aforementioned Missile Hit was like a scalpel to the achilles tendon of Bigg Fella builds. He just can't repel firepower of that magnitude, because most people aren't expecting you to be able to do that much damage in one shot at long range.
Edit Edit: This build gets even better when you realize you can get a Sensor Jammer for free, greatly extending the life of a ship that many people may try to focus down.

Ruthless cluster vader is fun, but inefficient in longer games.
it's a pity.

I think if you know you're going against a swarm it would be great fun.
