Big Day in Paris Yesterday. Game-Changing Climate Deal Reached

By TasteTheRainbow, in X-Wing Off-Topic

This is maybe the first time humanity has decided, together, to save us from ourselves. It's not a big enough deal, but it'll pave the way for the big deals in 5 and 10 years. Here's a couple summaries of what the deal means:

And here's a link about why you should care. Keep in mind this info is from 2011 and projections have gotten more dire since that time. Also includes a quick, effective video summary.

In the words of the Starcraft II announcement video:

Hell, it's about time.

I can still remember when we had four seasons. Am I old, guys?

El NiƱo year is exaggerating the trend quite a bit in the states, but the tropics often have only two seasons and they are heading our way over the last few and next few decades.

I do care about the climate. I am just, well..., sceptic. Each country can still choose whether or not to follow the agreement. Will it pave the way for future deals? Yes.

But will they be on time?

For my kids sake, I do hope so...

:(

Future deals will have to have more teeth. The longer we wait for those deals the more draconian they will be.

It's not a big enough deal

Thread title states otherwise :P

Good to see we're finally being smart, as a species.

Read something the other day about, IIRC, I think it was one of the Carolinas refusing to allow a solar farm because it would "drain the sun of its energy"

<_<
