Hera Rules Interaction

By rabid1903, in X-Wing

Evening everyone,

So my question is in regards to Hera + Nien Nunb + Stay on Target. With this combination, I believe that the entire dial for the Attack Shuttle is available, assuming you select a straight maneuver or the 1 banks.

Throw a TLT on there and for 31 points you have a PS 7 pilot who has her entire dial open unless she's stressed. If she is stressed, there are 6 maneuvers available to her to ditch it.

Quick shot at a build led me to this:

Hera Syndulla (Attack Shuttle) (22)
Stay On Target (2)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Nien Nunb (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Phantom (0)

Kanan Jarrus (38)
Reinforced Deflectors (3)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Extra Munitions (2)
Proton Torpedoes (4)
Sabine Wren (2)
Recon Specialist (3)
Cluster Mines (4)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Ghost (0)

Total: 100

Lessee,

You always select a 2 straight which is green.

Nien Nunb allows you to change the dial to any of the straights (and 1 banks).

Stay on Target then allows you to change the bearing.

Should work.

The problem is that Stay on Target makes the maneuver red, so at best you can only do this every other turn. Personally I prefer navigator as choosing a red maneuver lets you make any hard turn (including the white 2-turn) or k-turn, while choosing a green lets you take any forward or bank. It also keeps your EPT slot open for VI if you want to adjust your dial at PS9.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can only "activate" Navigator once per turn, right?

i.e. You can't do this:

Select 3 Right Bank

Navigator to 1 Right Bank

Hera to 1 Left Bank

Navigator to 3 Left Bank

Navigator is not strictly once per turn, but since you only reveal one maneuver (which you then modify) you only get one opportunity to use Navigator.

So the series of events that I said isn't possible, but you could technically Navigator a SLAM move? Actually, now that I've typed it out I realize that isn't possible because SLAM doesn't reveal a maneuver.

To our great regret.

True, but if you always start with a green/red maneuver you can do the following:

- Green Case -

Select 1 left bank

Hera to 1 forward

Navigator to 4 forward

- Red Case -

Select 3 right turn

Hera to 1/3 left turn

Navigator to 2 left turn

Thus, if you start with a red maneuver you can end on any hard turn or k-turn, even the white 2-turn, and if you start with a green you can get to any forward or bank maneuver.

Yes, it is very difficult to execute a maneuver and never reveal my opponent what maneuver it is. My usual tactic is to shout "Look, it's Jar Jar Binks!" or "That slave outfit cosplay looks very convincing," and quickly put down the template while my opponent is distracted.

If SLAM would've read:

Choose and set a new maneuver on your dial. Reveal and execute that maneuver.

It would've been a very different puppy, including bomb-dropping shenanigans.
