Twin Laser Turret clarification

By 1mikethebuilder1, in X-Wing Rules Questions

First part: 'perform this attack twice'. So if I have target lock I can reroll once each time, for a total of four potential rolls?

Second part: 'each time this attack hits the defender suffers 1 damage. Then cancel all dice results.' It sounds like there is a contradiction here. Does the defender get to roll for defense? If I cancel all dice results immediately after rolling do I even get to use the target lock benefit? Thanks

You can only use the target lock once.

The defender gets to roll defence dice. A target is only "hit" if at least one hit or crit result is left after green evades have canceled out as many red hits/crits as possible.

Just to clarify Veldrin's statement, You can only use each target lock once - you must spend (discard) a target lock in order to use it.

On the first attack, if you spend the target lock to reroll, your target lock is gone. However, if you have some way of getting another target lock, like Fire Control System, then yes, you could spend that new target lock on the second attack.

A way to get Target Locks back that you're more like to see in concert with a TLT: Drea Renthal's pilot ability.

First Part: A TL only applies to ONE attack. If you use it with the first attack then you do not have that same TL for the second attack. If you somehow gain an additional TL against the target you may use this second TL on the second attack.

Second Part: Here "hit" is the specific game term and NOT the shorthand commonly used to describe a filled in explosion symbol or [boom] as we will some times call it instead. A "hit" does not happen until the "Compare Results" step is completed which is after any attack modifications are made, such as TL, and then after the "Roll Defense" step.

Roll Attack -> Modify Attack -> Roll Defense -> Modify Defense -> Compare Results (this is a shorter version of the complete process)

Also, while on the subject of target locks, if you have a missile or torpedo that requires you spend it to fire, then it's no longer available to provide a reroll for that attack.

Target locks are a one-use function of the game. Once it's spent, you immediately remove the tokens.
