You can stop panicking about Kanan Crew now

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

As Kanan the Pilot's ability also covers your entire fleet.

On himself, double Recon Specialist gives him 3 Focus Tokens per Focus Action (each giving him a +1, rather than a set of 2 as with the Weapons Engineer).

If he spends those through his ability, that's only slightly worse than distributing 3 Evade tokens throughout your friendly ships at Range 1-2.

Well, the answer's simple now, isn't it? Kill Kanan first, and your woes are over? Well, I'm remembering a certain pilot for the recently-buffed T-65 that prevents that.

Yep. Biggs Darklighter just found a new best friend.

Throw in Garven Dreis for an extra token, or another ship in the 29-25 point range, and we got us a ballgame

Some more cards to potentially use for more focuses and actions and shenanigans!

Sweet Jesus.

tlts say LOL

I guess it does not say once per round, but it does speak in the singular. Do you think you can spend more than one oken per round?

you can spend only 1 focus token to reduce the attack of an attacking enemy ship by one.

You many do this for any number of attacks. The attacks do not need to be at you.

They can be at the Biggs sitting behind the ghost with the radar jammer, for instance.

The question is, what about TLT's? Gunner? Cluster Missiles? Epic Ships that can attack more than once?

...

So. Ask me again... Why do I want to play this particular game?

What about them? Each use if Kanan reduces a single attack 1 die. If you want to reduce a second attack you spend another focus token.

Got it, i see it now thanks.

Something like this? Lacks firepower but is kind of funny. Kanan can advanced sensors to get 3 focuses even when he gets blocked, Biggs does greens to regen any shields he loses. Kanan obstructs shots as well as reduces 3 incoming attacks by one dice. Prototype just because. You could drop the tlt to a dorsal turret and replace the prototype with Ezra but that is a very expensive single dorsal turret shot, may as well get the same amount of damage with the prototype and get some blocks in at the same time.

While I'll accept it can be done as many times as one has focus tokens, I doubt it is squad wide. I'm pretty sure the 'you' here is referring to Kanan only.

Look at Garven's ability:

After spending a focus token, you may place that token on any other friendly ship at Range 1-2 (instead of discarding it).

Or Wedge's:

When attacking, reduce the defender's agility value by 1 (to a minimum of "0").

Or Horton's:

When attacking at Range 2-3, you may reroll any of your blank results.

All use similar wording regarding "When 'X', you may 'Y'" but nobody plays these ability as squad wide. I am positive Kanan's is the same.

The key here is that it's worded "When an enemy... is attacking". They don't have to be attacking you, just attacking. The ability doesn't care at all who the defender from that attack is, or what their range is, just that the attacker is at Range 1-2.

Those triggers are different. Also its not really squad-wide. Kanan is a 2 range debuffer who can spend a focus token to debuff an enemy ship who makes an attack. The target of the attack is irrelevant, only the position of the enemy ship making the attack.

Hmmmm Kanan and Kyle on a HWK....

I think it will be fun, and I think it could win some games when people aren't prepared for it, but I'm not sure the squad is flexible enough to win. What if Kanan is stressed, for example. The whole combo gets broken.

I still reckon we'll find this will be FAQ'd to be restricted to Kanan's VCX.

why faq? it's pretty clear IMO and not that abusive..

"if in r1-2 to kanan.." bla bla bla... "kanan spends 1 focus to bla bla"

A pity esege only works for attacking. Would've been hilarious with kanaan.

Its's funny, but not OP. You need to take reconspecialists, advanced sensors etc.. he gets quite expensive quickly that way. And then somebody can stress him and kill your whole combo. I highly doubt that a lot of tournaments will be won with this pilot.

I disagree.

So. Ask me again... Why do I want to play this particular game?

dunno, i ask myself this regularly.

I dunno, I'd be willing to bring one RecSpec and then Chopper on Kanan to make sure I can always Focus if need be. Maybe Advanced Sensors too. Garven and Biggs flying escort...

I'd go with FCS instead of Advanced Sensors to feed actions to your TLT. And then, you can afford Zeb instead of the A-wing and get a Phantom to dock and make the Ghost more awesome.

remember, kids

and that means both stress and range
except in the case of stress, people can get smart and go KK on your ass

Edit: By which I mean, if it was only supposed to affect the VCX, why wouldn't it say "When defending against an enemy ship at range 1-2, you may spend a focus token to make the attacker roll one fewer attack dice"?

You have to drop the title. Or make room for a Phantom.
