Best Individual Y-Wing?

By R5D8, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What's the best way to build a stressing Y-Wing in order to add it to any squadron? "Best" in this scenario being "contributes the most to a victory without needing to build all other ships around it."

R3-A2 seems the way to go.

But TLT? Ion Cannon?

Do you add on the BTL-A4 title to get that double stress or do you leave the turret free to fire?

Engine Upgrade to keep it clear of Range 1 or be able to turn around quicker? Or Shield Upgrade to keep it around just a little longer?

Stealth Device? :)

Keep it under 35 points?

For efficiency, look no further than Paul Heaver's Worlds-winning build. Gold Squadron Pilot, BTL-A4, R3-A2, Twin Laser Turret.

Cheap and gets the job done.

Upgrade the pilot to Horton if you want attack modifiers, or switch the TLT to an ion cannon if you're feeling particularly nasty. Anything more than that's probably unnecessary.

I'm not a good enough pilot to take the title yet. I flew a Y-wing for the first time at a demo recently and the dial was just too limiting.....for me. Obviously many others love their hogs.

the thing with the r3-a2 BTL-a4 is it doesn't matter at all how limited it gets, because you're doing far more to limit a far more expensive enemy ship

you go TLT r3-a2 nowadays because of range 3. Your arc extends out to its widest the further away you far from a target, making it more difficult to arc-dodge. Your dice results don't rather (******* love that), you just want to double stress a fool

it helps to also block yourself to keep from overshooting the enemy. remember, you're also stressed as ****, so you don't care about losing actions

otherwise, BTL-a4 is not worth it with TLTs (it's money with ICT, though)

I had thought about the possibility of something like:

Gold Squadron

- R3-A2

- Twin Laser Turret

- Flechette Torpedoes

- Extra Munitions

- Munitions Failsafe

No, the prospect of trying to get a target lock on an evasive higher PS ship isn't thrilling. However this does give the ability to double stress those ships that you can get, and leaves the TLT free to 360.

Just wondering about the ability to actually fire those torpedoes.

You won't be able to, or be forced to do it at a time when it may not be advantageous for you.

Accept that the first time you trigger R3 is the last time you perform an action. Giving stress is your action for the rest of the game.

Annnnnd I feel dumb. That's quite right. Thank you.

TLT or Ion Cannon?

With the Flechettes you want the Ion turret.

TLT or Ion Cannon?

Gentlemen prefer Ion.

I think the ion gives you more control, but the tlt if you can keep it at range 3 gives the stress hog more surviability

Keep it as cheap as possible: Gold with title, R3-A2 and turret of choice.

Myself, I use it to hunt aces and zone control. So I find the range 2-3 of the TLT double-stress much more useful than the range 1-2 of the Ion Turret: it's harder for the arc dodgers to get out of the range 3 band and it creates a bigger deadzone where they don't want to go in.

I used 2 Y's at a tournament yesterday; one Gold with R3, TLT, title and then Horton with TLT.

The stresshog scared the crap out of everyone and was their first target, it still managed to stress out at least 2 ships before it went down though.

This gave Horton (so reliable with TLT) and my Lone Wolf Luke time to position as best as possible :D

In my first game the hog managed to get behind an IG and took it down on it's own, it was awesome.
