Palp List advice

By DarthDane, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I just picked up a raider a few days ago and looking for input from those with experience running Palp lists. I'm struggling to nail down exactly what I want to fly with him. Have a couple of ideas in mind.

Now I see a couple lists made top 8 at worlds with him:

1. Soontir/Vader/Shuttle

2. and Carnor/Vader/Shuttle

I guess this pretty much the cream of the crop? What about other options like:

1. Double interceptor any 2 from Turr/Soontir/Carnor + Shuttle

2. Or 2 advanced + Shuttle

3. Or Palp on a decimator with only a single ace (plenty of ways to build this out)

How do they stack up? What have you run with Palp? What have you had the most success with overall? Pitted against one another which do you think comes out on top assuming equal player skill?

I've been flying Brobots or soontir/Chiraneu in my league play and now that I've finally picked up a raider The Emperor needs a seat at my table =). Also have a tournament coming up so really looking to narrow these choices down and sharpen my skill with the finalized list.

So I just played 3 games for my local league and have been left even more indecisive lol.

I had come to the conclusion that the stronger list was 2 aces and the shuttle. So I fielded:

Soontir - PTL/AT/SD/Title

Vader - LW/ATC/Title/EU

Shuttle - Palp

First game against the first place person in the league fielding Heaver's 2015 World's list. It was quite a game, and very close. Soontir got clipped by the stresshog and I lost him for a few turns. I was up by 12 points (a headhunter) until the very final turn. We play 60 minutes timed and in the final round of shooting he knocked the last 2 shields off my shuttle scoring 14 points for it. That was the score... 14-12. Nothing else died.

Second game I played against a standard Chiraneu/Soontir list. Opponents Soontir got one shot... at range 3... through a rock, by Vader. I had blocked him with my shuttle and his 6 dice came up blanks/focus'. His decimator followed about 4 turns later. score 100-0.

Third game I played a rematch against the first opponent fielding his identical list. This one would not be counted toward standing so I decided to switch it up and fielded:

Vader - LW/ATC/Title/EU

Kenkirk - PTL/Ysanne/Palp/EU

He got my vader, I got the rest. Score 100-36.

Both great lists, but now I'm left wondering... Luck in the rematch? Dice were about the same but I had a much easier time keeping Poe in my targets and managed to get him down first. Vader went down shortly after but the Y's were very easy to tail with the Deci, staying out of the hogs arc and within R1 of the TLT. It only suffered 2 damage (plus shield losses). I think I'll definately have to try both out again, but for anyone who's flown both styles how have you found them?

I know the trend of imperials is to fly some type of ace these days, but I have had some casual success with Palp shuttle + mini crackshot swarm:

“Howlrunner” (19)
TIE Fighter (18), Crack Shot (1)
Black Squadron Pilot (15) x 3
TIE Fighter (14), Crack Shot (1)
Omicron Group Pilot (36)
Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Sensor Jammer (4), Ion Cannon (3), Emperor Palpatine (8)
No 'ace' but you have good coverage and can burn through some enemy aces fairly easily. Ion cannon on the shuttle was somewhat experimental to change the targeting priority for the opponent, forcing them to focus it down early through the sensor jammer or suffer the possibility of control.
My take on Palp + Aces would be to start with Soontir + Palp as your base and then experiment with that last slot. Soontir is slippery and the shuttle might not get targeted first, so personally I prefer to have an anchor ship...this can be a defensive Vader (Accuracy Corrector/Lone Wolf/Engine) or something like a Delta Defender with enough points to put sensor jammer on the shuttle.
I want to try Decimator Palp list, but have not gotten around to it yet.
