Chopper Crew. A letdown or awesome?

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

Just theorycrafting but I think I like him on a low budget Transport. A little action economy on a ship with native regen.

Not really, Huge ships cannot be stressed. Chopper<crew> would be pointless on a GR-75 Rebel Transport.

I think it's fantastic. I love cards where you hurt yourself to do more damage, though.

Lemme guess, your favourite MTG card is Swamp?

It's been a very long time since I played Magic, bit isn't that a basic land?

Yes, hes implying that he loved black spells, which frequently have effects where you hurt yourself to do more X.

@OP - I like him. Action economy and I can definitely see where certain pilots could minimize the drawback. 0 points means lots of times you will see him because "why not?" I felt it was fluffy as well.

The truly dedicated masochistic player (for example, me) uses Tomb of Urami.

I like this sort of tradeoff effect as well, and I'm happy to see more cards that grant powerful or under costed abilities with some additional drawbacks.

Both of his abilites represent him being a jerk, just in different ways

I honestly am not a huge fan of 0 point upgrades, because they become auto-include in slots they occupy that weren't going to be filled otherwise.

Given that ships clearly pay for their upgrade slots regardless of use, I've long felt the game needed a line of 0 cost upgrades that both serve as a baseline and to account for that cost. Even without that, a card like this is really possible now because there are enough worthwhile upgrades that the opportunity cost of the slot is worth something on its own.

DUH! Even though I had just read it, in my head I gave him the ability to grant a free action and inflict 1 damage. Obviously totally different thing.

I think he is solid and thematic. 0-point insurance against getting your 50-60 point closer blocked and stressed to death is awesome.

Necropotence ftw.

I like this guy. You make good posts.

I feel you on that when taking into account the ship having a cost associated with the inclusion of the slot. With that line of thinking, I would hope they come out with more 0 point options soon. It would be a pity to have a 100 point list with an empty crew slot if you're a player that can't afford the Ghost expansion. So more 0 point options, I say! More!

That's pretty crazy.

I'm a fan of this gem.

The "theme" for this card is might save your ass in a pinch, which is totally on par with what chopper does in the show. Also this could be used as a counter to stress bots.

0 points means always take him if you have a free crew slot. It gives you options for free.

Which, honestly, are everywhere now it seems. Not a bad buy...err I mean... take. xD

Ha chopper is a little jerk bot. His rules are perfect. I always thought chopper was the series real antagonist.

I like the card and frankly given the amount of neat-o toys the rebels get with the Ghost it's a little much to complain that this is a "letdown".

I think the is one of the best ship releases to date. They went all out on every level.

So just to clarify, since you "suffer one damage" and not "receive one damage card", Chopper's ability will chew through shields first, yes? I can see people pairing him with R2-D2.

I think it'll be interesting to see how Chopper evolves (or not) over time. Since he is "free" almost everyone will try him at some point. Unlike a lot of questionable cards he's going to be tested out a ton. With actual time being played will he manage to be useful enough to supplant other crew members you could have bought instead?

The version of chopper being called for is about an episode a week or two ago? Wave 8 was spoiled first at Gencon? Would the episode in question even have been produced by that time? The number of times chopper gets the crew in trouble is high enough, that it seems pretty thematic as is.
