By DiabloAzul, in Star Wars: Armada

After months of work and over 1,000 posts on our custom cards thread, the first fan expansion set for Star Wars: Armada is finally ready! This set is loosely based on the popular Thrawn Trilogy novels by Timothy Zahn, and contains new ship, squadron and upgrade cards for both the Imperial and Rebel factions:

  • Immobilizer 418-class Cruiser
  • Vindicator-class Heavy Cruiser (2 variants)
  • Dreadnaught-class Heavy Cruiser (4 variants)
  • Assault Frigate Mark I (3 variants)
  • GR-75 Medium Transport
  • Xg-1 Starwing Assault Gunboat (generic and unique)
  • Lambda-class Shuttle (generic and unique)
  • Z-95 Headhunter (generic and unique)
  • E-Wing (generic and unique)
  • 24 new Upgrade cards (2 commanders, 4 officers, 11 titles, 2 gravity well projector upgrades and 5 cargo upgrades)
  • 6 new Objective cards

The cards, along with printing instructions, can be downloaded here. They are also available as an extension for Ransburger's excellent Vassal mod, and they will soon appear in Nevetz's Armada Warlords fleet builder tool.

I hope you enjoy them! If you do, please let us know. If you don't, by all means let us know why! :D

(Note: an earlier version of this thread was deleted; this modified re-post has been approved by the mods)

Played quite a few games with some of this already. Its been a really fun addition to our groups casual play.

Ok, so little review. Got to play your custom Nebula Encounter Objective today. Lets just say the game was close and brutal. MC30's and Raiders trading point blank shots with bombers on both sides getting close for the kill. Both sides scored a close range kill turn 4, Victory-I/Nebulon-B, which were the only ship kills of the game. Both sides managed to stay out of the primary fire arcs for most of the game creating a very opportunistic fight where one bad move may cost the game. Unfortunatly for the Rebellion, the Nebulon-B was loaded with support gear and the Admiral, putting its value over the naked Vic-I with Needa in command. The Imperial player with the initiative managed to stay one step ahead of the 9 Rebel squadrons that outnumbered them to tip the point scale in their favour. All in all a very tense enjoyable game. Hope to try more of the custom objectives this weekend.

Just ordered a printed set.
Thanks for doing all the work on this!

And Printerstudio is currently offering free shipping on any order with code: WELCOME

Should have 3 Dreadnaughts ready for action during our next game. Gonna run them as Bel Ibless' personal group. Should provide an interesting change for the Imperial opponent.

Ordered mine. These are just too pretty not to have in my collection.

Thanks for all the awesome work on these DA!

That dreadnought looks absolutely stunning and I want it now, they all do, amazing work.

This looks like some really amazing work! I just placed an order for all the cards and what not off Printer Studio myself - thanks so much for putting them time into this.

Just ballparking but it looks like ordering in the smallest quantities from Mel's Miniatures you'll end up footing somewhere between $250-300 to get everything in FUD. The only issue then remains the bases, pegs, rivets &c - I don't suppose you guys know a source for any of those? Big Orbits is one I've heard of but they're regrettably sold out on most of the stuff and on the wrong continent to boot!

I figure worst case I will never need every ship I own on one table so I have just been using FFG bases since I have a ton already. Like this below :)

Ordered two sets.

Don't know if you guys take requests, but I'd love to see a "Utility Set" with the BFF freighters and the Platforms.

Does anyone know what the best type of paper to use at home would be? Had a really quick look at the office supply store on my way home and didn't really see anything like playing card type paper. They had thicker sheets than normal paper of course but nothing with a slight sheen or a little texture like playing cards have. Any advice?

I couldn't find anything cheaper than just ordering the set, especially when you add in the cost of the ink cartridges. Your best bet on quality card stock may be to hit up the local craft store. They have all sorts of photo quality stock for invitations, custom Christmas cards and such.

How do you order these? Just message me please thanks.

Detailed Instructions are provided through the "Available Here" link on the first Post.

But regardless, I have also Messaged them to you :)

How is this not going to get a 1 million-ton mouse shaped hammer dropped on it?

I understand fair use, but the design templates for all of this is a direct appropriation from Armada.

It looks like really cool and good work but did you not just light a very short fuse on this project by posting it here?

The issue was already discussed and resolved. This is just some serious fan mojo.

Was it? As in, legal permission? Not "Space Rocks" style?

Yeah, there's a footnote on that in the OP. You're welcome to PM me if you want to discuss the specifics.

In the meantime, enjoy the fruits of our labour :)

Is there not a zip file to download the whole set all at once? Why? Is that sonething to do with the legal end, some other reason or can I just not find the right link?

I know the purpose of the set was to put together customs that have seen table time for rough balance. Anything on shipyards outside of that set marker have probably seen little to no table time within the play test end. At least nothing concrete.

I think this is currently the closest thing to a compilation.

IANAL, but there is ZERO mention of any models and the only people making money are the printers. This is what Fair Use is supposed to look like.
