Shipyards Set 1: Heir to the Empire

By DiabloAzul, in Star Wars: Armada

My cards shipped yesterday. 3 days to print is not bad. Just waiting to see what door to door time is, as it is currently in the hands of the Hong Kong post...

Ah, Star Wars stuff from Hong Kong, takes me back to the first time I noticed the Made in Hong Kong on my figure of Chewbacca... Pew pew, good times!

How is this not going to get a 1 million-ton mouse shaped hammer dropped on it?

I understand fair use, but the design templates for all of this is a direct appropriation from Armada.

It looks like really cool and good work but did you not just light a very short fuse on this project by posting it here?

The issue was already discussed and resolved. This is just some serious fan mojo.

Was it? As in, legal permission? Not "Space Rocks" style?

IANAL, but there is ZERO mention of any models and the only people making money are the printers. This is what Fair Use is supposed to look like.

It's less about fair use and people making money and more about protecting intellectual property. For example, these models and cards can "dilute" or cast an unauthorized view on an intellectual property, confuse the brand in the market blah blah blah blah. Space Rocks got shut down for making ROCKS and vaguely star wars shaped debris ffs.

When I first saw this project on Facebook I was excited and impressed. The creators have brought some truly innovative ideas into the Armada system and the art and design really is production quality. I would be sad to see it shut down by corporate cyborgs is what i'm trying to say...

You're a little mistaken there... Its not Vaguely shaped debris.

The Debris was made by re-casting existing models and then breaking or 'distressing' them, in order to provide legitimate debris, rather than just vaguely shaped.

It is the profiting off the re-casting that was the biggest part of the C&D.

Thanks for the pedantic correction on semantics. I guess mild hyperbole is not allowed when the internet police are about.

...

Um. Wow.

I didn't think it was semantics when it was seemingly the core issue involved.

Either case guys, let her slide. If you get a chance let us know how some of this stuff plays out in your games. We had a lot of fun working on this.

Thats a cool little review Cynan. The small cards fit FFG red sleeves if you don't want to trim them.

Just showed up to say this. Of course, now I have to trim the sleeves, as they are a mite tall.

Better the sleeves then the pretty cards lol.

My cards arived today, and I couldn't be happier with what arived.

If wave 3 takes too long, we make our own. Today I ordered up all the ships I was missing from the set 1 cards... I'm only missing the E-wings now. I can live with that until my big Clone Wars purchase in the spring. Here's to hoping FFG comes out with separate Armada bases for sale, like they announced for X-wing. I want all these little beauties displayed on Armada bases, without having to switch ships and cards around when I want to use them.

I find I don't mind switching the ship bases since they are stored that way anyway. But I did however simply buy FFG fighter packs and use their bases.

I picked up 2 extra core sets just for the bases when CSI had em discounted to under $50. But I have a glass case perfect for displaying them, I want to display them!

I'm sorta on the fence about buying heavily into a new expansion set.

I think outside of a few ships, I wont expand any further.

Then again...wave 3 is taking quite a long time.

For those interested, I recently picked up a 1.25" hole punch, for the purpose of cutting out the printed squadron dials. The 1.25" is slightly larger than the FFG dials, but is the closest I could find. It just arrived Friday, so Other than some test cuts, I haven't tried it out on printed dials yet. I will post pictures as soon as I do.

So far I have only found this product in one place.

I may very well be interested in getting you to make me some Imperial V-wing dials.

Cause you know...I like V-wings.
