Ghost part 2 article up!

By imprezagoatee, in X-Wing

What a BS expansion. It's like a middle finger towards Imperial and Scum players.

The salt is strong with this one.

Boo-freaking-hoo. Sorry that there are expansions made for other factions that are any good. Sorry that the game doesnt cater to you and your factions only. Did you maybe consider the fact that Rebel players probably said that same, exact thing when the Phantom came out? Get over yourself.

You seem to be the unreasonable one here. Rebels are getting quite a lot in this single expansion. It's not crazy for imperial players to feel like they're getting the short end of the stick by just getting a single small ship expansion in wave.

The gonzatti being revealed will hopefully show that all factions are getting some ships and really good cards and then everyone can be happy.

Totally predicting thermal detonator is a bomb you can explode at will.

That feels a little busted to just entirely close off that section off the board.

if only we had other bombs that stuck around to deny sections of the board... :P

We don't in that manner. Assuming the mine template isn't n dropped on my face I can generally pick which ship runs into it to clear it if I need to move past it. If detonators are seismics that explode at the end of whatever activation my opponent wants then I'm just sort of stuck avoiding that bubble.

Actually, I wouldn't get behind imperial whining either

the Inquisitor looks ridiculous, and the FOs that have been spoiled are all incredible (Ep Ace being more solid than incredible, though). The Juke + Relay (and soon, Tie/v1) combo is incredibly legit, too

Gonzati only really provides Kallus and the awesome Wampa, but in the future maybe Youngster will be worth a **** too

Not an issue if you play all factions. Makes the game 3x as fun.

...and 3x as expensive. *sigh* Oh, well.

Sabine elevates rebels to the bomb faction above all others. Her on a Warden, dropping proxies, has a 50% chance of one-shotting Soontir, before he gets a chance to move. Two wardens and Miranda, all with upgraded bombs and advanced slam, is probably going to become a feared list for ace players...

The only thing I think I don't like about this pack is the character art. Sabine and Hera both look like dudes and Ezra looks like a dork wearing the same crappy smile as the alt art Dash, I'm assuming because they have the same artist.

And I know they didn't have a ton of realism to start with on these designs, and on a technical level the art has merit, but they just don't look good, sorry. :/

Whoever is doing the ship art though, they're holding their own. And the mechanics are interesting so Woot.

Now that you said that about Ezra crew, I'm not sure I can ever un-see it... sigh...

And ya, Hera and Sabine do look less feminine, but I kind of like that. If you are a ragtag rebel group, the women of the crew aren't going to be spending too much time slapping on make up and eyeliner.

I for one will be calling Sabine "David Bowie"

The Ghost feels like the Epic counterpoint to the Gozanti honestly, far more than the Gozanti feels equitable to the Transport.

There's been some huge imperial design improvements in general lately. The Raider certainly did more for the Advanced than about anything ever and we're seeing a ton of work being made to add dimension to the swarm. The Inquisitor looks great as well and if the Guidance Chip does anything worthwhile, it will probably be a huge boon to the swath of missiles Imperial ships have.

So my biggest question from this pack: who's Ibtisam's favourite copilot? Hera or Ezra?

P.S. I'm flying Sabine in a HWK. You can't handle my bomber HWK!

Yes, we probably won't get previews of those two cards and they'll be surprises for when the ship releases, which is fine.

I don't think it's fine. Unspoiled cards always end up having to use inferior scans for their images in the wiki...

I don't think it's the size of the ship release, it's more the fact that the Ghost is coming with, like, a dozen Rebel-only upgrade cards.

Big releases for other expansions can still be interesting when they are packed full of cards that anyone can use.

This one is mostly faction-specific crew cards.

Chopper with Zeb and Ion Projector is a only 40 points, and probably the most annoying blocker imaginable. If Soontir hits that he'll be stressed, hit with a five dice attack with re-rolls, and possibly ioned. :P

Don't need APT with a 4-dice primary.

How do you get a 4-dice primary behind you?

the Phantom docked

Which gives you a second attack from an equipped turret upgrade. Question stands.

It also lets you fire your primary weapon from the special firing arc. Questions sits.

Thank you all for correcting my memory. The perils of typing away without taking a moment to open a new tab and go hunting for my own answer...

Is Hera (vcx) that strong? I mean, on the VCX you can make a 1/3 turn into a k turn and vice versa, and can make a 1 straight into a 1 bank and vice versa? Can that be made into to a meaningful advantage in game? I can't help but think she should have been at least PS8, both thematically and game play wise. I'm open to being wrong, but I'm cool on her as a first impression.

Can't you also take enhanced scopes to just be a mega blocker?

This release, full of awesome rebel treats, makes me think that we won't see a wider array of popular scum builds until their epic ships start to drop. It's why rebels feel slightly ahead of the curve, I think: they had 2 epics worth of toys before anyone else, and as soon as the gozanti is spoiled, and parity in big faction releases is on the horizon (at least between imperials and rebels) they drop the ghost bomb. Scum will need a 'double-tap' release schedule to stay relevant.

Okay, is this possible...

Sabine Crew + GR75 = Transport Bomber?

Okay, is this possible...

that's a whole lot of space between the front of the ship and the back

somehow doubt it'll be truly effective, unless the rest of the fleet has a ton of bombs :P

Hera: amazing in every way. As a Ghost Pilot with Intel Agent, she's going to be causing everyone fits if they try to keep her in arc, especially on a red maneuver. As a Phantom pilot, she doesn't even need the Intel Agent unless she takes Stay On Target. And her crew ability is also stupid awesome for 1 point.

Kanan: Kanan, meet Kyle Katarn and Biggs Darklighter. You three are going to have fun together when you're not riding shotgun for Dash Rendar.

Ezra: great shuttle pilot, seems overpriced as crew.

Sabine: Intel Agent and PTL will be annoying as a shuttle pilot. K-Wings will love her as a crew member, but she also adds an unexpected element to everything else with a crew slot. Goodbye, CR-90 aft blind spot!

Zeb: Eh, underwhelmed on him in both forms. His crew is better than his pilot, though.

Chopper: Just put a red wig on him and call him Mara Jade. As a crew, he's free, so basically a "Why not" option if you have a slot free.

Overall, I am going to love this expansion.

I am going to have to buy 4 #$&@ Ghosts just to run a shuttle swarm. It almost seems like the shuttle is the ace upgrade to the Z95, or what X-Wings should have been.

Scum got two last wage to every else's one and is getting two major ships next wave. I'm super happy with my scum lists now and drooling over Dengar.

Happy to hear it! Scum are the most fun faction for me too.

That preview was worth gnawing on my knee all week waiting for. (Reconstructive surgery costs notwithstanding...)

Nice job with this one, FFG. I really like the crew and pilots, and that dial is going to be fun! I may have to start running bombs on my Warthogs...

Also, I really want to put Hera and Sabine crew on Lando's Falcon, just because I know it would aggravate Kanan and Ezra...

While I'm a bit annoyed at how good the dials are for these two ships, THIS is really the thing that bugs me most about the expansion.

His ability is good, yet he's free. I can't recall any other times we've seen such a strong 'free' upgrade, outside of maybe the TIE/x1 title, which was described quite clearly as a game rebalancing patch for the TIE Advanced.

What was so weak in the Rebel fleet that they needed a patch this strong?

Yeah, if only Scum had 2 ships coming out this wave.... Oh Wait!

Yeah, let's wait until we see the full spoil wave 8 before worrying too much. Got a $20 blister with lots of goodies and a large base with LOTS of goodies still to be revealed. Including Boba mother-loving Fett. Remember Alex Davy talking about how only iconic characters should be allowed to break the game? I'm curious if Boba qualifies.
