Ghost part 2 article up!

By imprezagoatee, in X-Wing

Not sure if it was stated previously and too tired to read through 12 pages of thread but you can't take all of the Spectres with both the Ghost and Phantom. It's exactly 1 short.

This is sadly true. On the other hand, I built a list using the ghost and 2 attack shuttles (1 docked, the other not) that has 3 differnet pilots and 1 crew on each.

I mean, can you imagine how many options the ghost has opened up not only for itself but for rebel ships in general?

No. That's why I'm reading the thread.

I must own this sexy beast of a starship.

So what's the verdict on this expansion now that everything's settled down? So far I can only see Kanan crew and possibly the Sabine shuttle showing up in high-level play. Their design goal for this expansion has been to create as much interesting interactions as they could, from that angle I'd call the Ghost an incredible success. The Ghost is the shape of things to come and a great field test to push the limits of rules interactions. Is the Ghost fun to play and full of flavor? Absolutely. Does it have an edge against Palp+Aces, 3 K Wings with tactician, or Dash/Corran? No, not really.

In b4 it's just like your opinion, man.

I don't think Kannan will show up that much, honestly

simply because he doesn't modify dice at all. He's no c3po, KK, gunner etc.

but as for the ghost as a whole, we actually have 0 idea. This is a beast of different nature and we need playtime to understand it.

For example, you can have a relatively cheap, completely stress immune defender-esque ghost for 43 points, well under the fat ship mark

Chopper (37)

*Hera (1)

*Ezra (3)

*FCS (2)

[43]

Needs Ion Projector for more trolling.

dicey...but that stress + ion...

Like I said, Chopper is perfect.

What's better: having to roll and then modify to protect against incoming fire, or reduce the incoming fire completely and absolutely?

You can dodge easily without kanan thanks to Dash's ability; the things you can't dodge (ala pwts) need to be modified against

Plus, after you dodge, you can use Kks to modify the shot instead of whiffing on naked dice

Kanan does not even protect against control mechanics as he only ever allows you to shed 1 stress

Ah, Kanan crew. I'm talking about the Pilot. I see where I misunderstood you.

I don't care about Dash's ability, I don't play Dash.

But Kanan crew does protect you against control: he allows you to shed stress faster and with less predictability.

Oh the pilot

Yeah he needs testing

Very powerful at first glance

Vulnerable to control but we have kk (both variants) for that

It's weird to read kk in reference to Kyle. :D. (I see it mostly used in Dutch, where it is shorthand for cancer, when used by kids trying to be rude, Dutch tend to curse with diseases).

But that's besides the point.

The Ghost is a weird ship. There are going to be some weird combinations going on. That will play differently. I doubt it is going to be a gatekeeper. But, I wouldn't be surprised if some players are able to make it work. Let's not discount getting a fairly healthy 3 Atk ship in the middle of the game, as the Ghost is about to die.

That's going to depend entirely on how you build and fly it. If you equip it with accuracy corrector and autoblaster turret, you've got a guaranteed 4 damage against anything that gets in range 1 of you (while the phantom is docked). Sure, arc-dodgers are going to do their best to stay OUT of range 1 if you have that setup, but that doesn't mean they'll always be successful. Range 1 on a large ship is a pretty big area, even more so if you can block them so they don't get actions to arc-dodge with (zeb crew to still get to attack if you block them such that they're in arc). That's a dead interceptor guaranteed, or a-wing. It puts corran or poe dangerously low on health. And 4 dice with 2 arcs for them to dodge, you have plenty of potential to do damage outside of that as well.

Clearly that build is going to be better against some biulds than against others, but there's a ton o fpossible combinations for building out the ghost.

Other than that, I'm more excited about X-Wing than I have been in a while. Hera Pilot + Kanan crew is a fantastic combination and I love the repositioning that Sabine + PtL + IA can potentially do.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but the auxiliary arc is only when the phantom is docked right?

When the Phantom is docked, you may use the special arc to fire the Ghost primary weapon out of.

If the Phantom is not docked, you may only use the special arc to fire torpedoes.

Super excited to see Rebels finally getting interesting iconic crew at good price points. An awesome expansion.

I don't understand what you mean by finally and iconic. I thought Han Solo in the Millenium Falcon was fairly iconic and very interesting since it dominated a lot of tournaments. Also there is Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca as crew, extra guns or damage mitigation. They're fairly iconic also.

Thanks brother and where did you find this tidbit? I haven't been keeping up on this ship much..

I agree with others that so many greens on a freighter when some fighters can't do as well seems out of place and not very thematic.

So can the ghost fire torps out the rear arc when the phantom is docked? Most likely, but nothing is certain after these articles...they have had tons of things that were flat out wrong when rules were clearified. SLAM bombs anyone?

An obscure line in the article.

Although the VCX-100 features a special firing arc from which it can fire any torpedoes it equips,

Thanks! Well that changes things a bit but not much. I've actually been messing around with an economy build this morning and the torpedo thing really just adds a few more pts to it. Otherwise its a stupidly mobile bull of a ship that just wants to go head on. I think the rise of this thing may actually be what sparks an increase in ordnance, if anything can.

This is going to be a fun ship.

My 8 year old son is crazy excited for it to come out, since he watches the series.

All in all a homerun for FFG. Well done.
