Fist pass at the MC80 finished. Then there was a power cut so I was unable to do some of the little bits and bobs. Obviously I still need to paint the base/stand and then I reckon maybe I'll pick out some panels in blue and possibly a final highlight in white over the hull.

Ha I did it! Alright gys I'm feeling really nervous now. 10 minutes of spray priming has eliminated the some Chinese artisan's finest work.

Next step. Base colours then ink wash.

Do all you guys prime the capital ships before you repaint them. It seem you wil fill in the lines that separate the panels for important contrast too much? Are you then using some sort of sealant when done. Can you paint on the models themselves or does the paint not stick well because of the Chinese sealant?

I have personally found it seems to go on okay, but rubs off with handling - which isn't too bad on some ships (The Neb-Bs for some reason, soak up the paint and love it, but the CR90s I've painted seem to come off regardless).

But the important, important, super important part of priming is to DUST THAT BASTARD ON.

NEVER use so much primer you're starting to fill gaps. A Good prime basically just dusts that surface giving enough for your basecoat to then adhere to...

A Big Mistake that a lot of people make in Miniature painting is that - A Primer Coat Is Not A Base Coat. A Primer Coat needs to be essentially a Basecoat in House Painting, and in Car Body Repair, as it either provides a completely coloured surface, or rust-roofing and adherance respectively, but those are larely irrelevent in miniature painting due to the small size and materials utilised.

And I'm thinking that once my big Warmachien paint is done and I can sit down and do Armada again, I might throw all of my capital ships in Isopropyl and strip them back to bare plastic to start completely fresh with an Airbrush that I'm reportedly being donated...

First post, I just finished painting my Imperial fleet and I wanted to share the result. I was Inspired by one picture I saw on the forum here of a dazzled camo Victory and decided to work from there mixing it with some Caunter camo scheme.

It was probably my Victory you saw last year, but your choice of colours and pattern design are far superior to my attempt.

The stand our ships for me are the Gladiators and the ISD! Wonderful patterns.

Fascinated take on that Mc80 DWRR. It looks like a command variant, not 'mon cal standard' and that's a good thing (so sayeth the rat!) The plates.... uuuugh the plates. I ignored them on the Mc80, I just couldn't do it. Mind if I ask what that blue blend shade is? It looks like some sort of P3 turquoise. The red striping, you know, like I said with Funk Fu, it just really works and looks totally at home on Rebel ships. Really nicely done, especially the masking. Planning on working up any more Rebs in that scheme?

My style of painting involves some really odd extremes, shading with very broad washes and sweeping colours but highlighting is at the other detailed end of the spectrum. I knew I was going to have to face the MC80 panels so I thought I might as well just go for it! When I can face it again I'll make a pass with white for the final highlights.

The shade is a combination of GW Thunderhawk Blue and P3 Coal Black. I had the P3 blue/grey colour to hand when desciding on a colour to use but went with the GW colour as it was slightly more grey than blue and it was the colour I had used extensively on my AFII's.

The P3 Coal black was also used to shade the red so it created a continuity with the main hull shading.

All capital ships in my rebel fleet have some form or red stripe so it was only natural to follow this over onto the MC80 - for 90% of the work I just painted teh stripes within existing panels and it worked out okay, no need to mask anything off or have to paint straight lines (always a bonus).

I think I want to add another MC80 with a slightly different shade or grey maybe shaded with a more warm colour, I also have an MC30 sitting pretty ready to paint and she will certainly have red stripes somewhere...

Was this a primer, wash, and drybrush only?

Painted with bone colour over the plastic, followed by a dark blue/black ink, then highlighted by adding white to the bone colour.

On the magnifying glass, Harbor Freight sells a 5 pack of jewellers loops for about $12 bucks. I have found them to be a huge boon while detailing fighters.

Along the same line, Walmart and most every Pharmacy has a rack of 'magnifying eyeglasses' in the $5 range. They fit on your head well and can magnify a lot. Leaves your hands free to do the painting.

Yes DWRR it was indeed your victory I saw that inspired me, I also mixed that with picture of actual ship camo and kept in mind your comment about color to close in tone to each other.

Ardaedhel, pleas use it and make it your own, that’s what is fun (at lest for me) with painting miniature is to make your armies your own, sometime subtle change really do make a difference so don’t be afraid to try stuff up.

But sadly now that all my fighter and imperial fleet is done I’m stuck on the rebels with like no inspiration what so ever. I had an idea of using the hiigaran color from the home world franchise but I’m not too sure how to translate it or if it would even look good. I mostly liked the similarity between the two group of fighting to bring back old order and re-establish their birthright so to speak. But I’m not even 60% sure it will look nice but also the more I think about it the more I want to go for a rag tag look since all the ship would come from different source. I was trying to look into information about military color of the various worlds making the ship but couldn’t find any useful info, so back to square one. I also pondered an ablator inspired scheme but the rebels aren’t pirates and it would be more appropriate for a scum faction fleet for example.

So does anyone as any suggestion on pointer or inspirational source for the rebel, I also kind of wanted to avoid to much of a military look as well they are rebel fighter.

Being a battletech player, I'm tempted to look through various 'mech paint schemes for inspiration for my Rebel ships. There's certainly plenty of variety to be found there. For example, I'm planning to do my Assault frigates in Star League colors(mix of light grey, dark grey, and a third color, pretty much your basic Rebel scheme already), with the words "Free Candy" in blood red aurebesh lettering on the sides, while I also want to do at least one CR90 on a maroon with orange striping, the colors of the Marian 4th Legion.

As a fellow Battletech fan, that sounds like a fantastic idea! One ship/squadron of ships could be House Kurita or Steiner colors, and another could look like Ghost Bears or Smoke Jaguars! I might go paint my imperials like Clan Wolf now

Well, after watching the beautiful ships in this thread I thought I'd give it a try and spruce up the plain corvettes. Here's my first attempts, mostly light washes and ink. 2nd one from the right is just inked, didn't even prime it as a test, came out better than expected. Far right one is stock out of the box.
