The Armada Community Painting Thread - Keep your pictures here! Keep 'em visible!

By DWRR, in Star Wars: Armada

@Vykes - love the white triangle markings on the corvette! Might have to steal that idea!

@WWPDSteven there is something wonderful about all those swarms of rogues and villains, the slight colour variations to keep them all unique.

Vykes, that Cr90 looks sharp. As soon as I'm finished with the fire newt I'll get pics up to compare

Awesome stuff there, Wes. I really do appreciate it! Yep, I got something in FUD so I really wasn't sure what I was getting myself into with a transparent resin. It doesn't sound too bad, no more so than my usual painting prep.

The white is looking good Norsehound. The discolouration looks terrific. All it needs is more Excelsior :P

Alright, on with the paintings! I finished this one up this morning, it's a companion piece to my other CR-90, based on th epattern from one of the Rebels ships.

phantastic one

Huzzah for the painting thread. -quickly scribbles down into signature-

I figure I'll add some previews here and any one of the codex thingies I make will just go onto my other little thread. Vive le painting thread! I shan't employ a full-spread picture barrage, so just what I've been doing today.

Just to confirm the Utar model is the soft firm material. Mel FUD is rather stiff and brittle if too thin. Just to make sure I wasn't misleading you with my first line.

I do hope this thread catches on! Shame we lost all the painting sub-forum in The Great 3d Printing Purge of Couple of Months Ago.

Vykes, those ISDs of yours... Daaaaaaamn! They're causing me some trouble in the trouser region. *dirty wink*
How do you paint the little light sources (windows?). I can't get those quite right.

Armada's the first game I really got into painting miniatures, so any suggestions/advice to improve my next wave of ships are appreciated.

(This shot has the squadrons a bit out of focus...)

The white is looking good Norsehound. The discolouration looks terrific. All it needs is more Excelsior :P

Discoloration? If you mean the slight blues on whites... the Refit enterprise and her ilk do have that distinction in the schemes actually. It's not just pure white.

...and in the spirit of that level of detail, My excelsiors are crap, because WizKids couldn't model them to save their life. They modeled the Ingram with a stretched saucer and sans megaphaser extensions, not the Excelsior.

When I get the rest of my ships in (looking like Monday right now), I can try to get some good pictures with them. Basically all my rebels have been painted in various schemes.

And yes, historically they're in the 61st Destroyer Division but I choose the designation of "Light Division" since in Armada lore, they're aren't considered as destroyers

Utterly love these!

Alright, this is a looong list of replies, but there's some awesome stuff that I missed!

Centerpoint, I really am looking forward to seeing that Fire Newt!

Nebulon B, thanks a ton, nice to know I am still slowly getting better.

Wes, no worries, I figured that's what ya' meant!

Cruiser, I 'm positive I subconsciously copied your Gladiators's patterning when I went to do my Raider, so it migrated over to my Gladiator and other Raider too. Thanks a ton for the inspiration :)

Polda, thanks a ton -laughs- There are waaaay too many filthy jokes I'm pretty sure I can make with an MC80, truth is I still love the patterning. Great job in getting all that different coloured plates to match the 'style' of the FFG base model. Nice strong rebel ship. As for the window, they're pretty easy. Take a deep mustard yellow for your base coat on the whole window, then splash it and the immediate surrounding area with a light red glaze, then re-highlight the centre of the window with a pinprick dot of bright yellow. If you feel the surface is large enough to take another central highlight colour (like a bridge, or a long walkway window, etc) then hit it with a spot of white.

Cyborg Ninja, that's a very cool look (no pun intended), I'm not used to seeing soft cool colour palettes on rebel ships but those are masterful. I like the badges too. Do you happen to have another shot of those fighters? That blue and yellow squadron in particular looks tremendous.

Norsehound, might just be my perception. Is that shadow on the main ISD body? It looks like the GSD has a touch of a lighter hue all over it which is sort of nice and rosy (I was sorta hoping someone elses super light grey had the same 'odd' ruddy colour mine did.

Hasitor, -laughs- I don't think they're that good but they are pretty neat. Ships of ten thousand brush strokes (I paint plates just by a dozen or so strokes to give it that 'streaky' look, and I tend to just layer that instead of a true blending).

Cruiser 'again' Love the 61st in particular. The Akizuki has almost a Mass Effect style colour scheme, especially melded with my thoughts about the Raider in general. They're very cool, if Armada comes out with a third faction I might take up a very similar colour scheme. Oh, love the almost poetic use of the boot colours as engine cowling. -laughs- nice.

Ugreevy, I'm sooo very jealous of those Gladiators and I don't even like the Gladiator-class :P Great shading, great light, great edging, great patterning, great everything. Seriously well done.

Oh, and my contribution for the day, the Yrellion Skye.

Looking forward to your GSDs

An MC30 joins the fleet. Now to free up an entire month to paint that Imperial behemoth...

Very nice work! I think that shade of red works really well - it seems believable at that scale, where a brighter more vibrant shade might seem just a bit unreal.

Bloody awesome once again. Dude, is your painting style seeing anyone? because I think I want to marry it.

Oh yeah! Well I painted mine invisible!

Beat that!

I wanna get a MC80, paint it shiny gold, and christen it the Goldmember.

Now I'm repeatedly coming back to the MC80 and adding more chips and scratches.

Might do a massive scar similar to my xwing yt1300
