The Armada Community Painting Thread - Keep your pictures here! Keep 'em visible!

By DWRR, in Star Wars: Armada

The X-Wing forum has one, so I think the Armada forum can have one.

If you want to show off your painting, get advice, ask questions or simply chat about modeling and painting post away in this thread.

This is a place for everyone to share their repaints and modelling of FFG miniatures!

To those members that already have their own threads, please do continue them, but do also post your pictures here so we can all help keep this topic alive!

Some of my work to get us started!

Huzzah for the painting thread. -quickly scribbles down into signature-

I figure I'll add some previews here and any one of the codex thingies I make will just go onto my other little thread. Vive le painting thread! I shan't employ a full-spread picture barrage, so just what I've been doing today.

Stunning pair of ISD's! Wow.

@BiggsIRL that MC30 is great! Love the white and red theme!

Ditto on what DWRR said, Biggs. That red Mc30 is great. It looks equal part 'flippant rebel' and high end torpedo boat. But that Mc80 takes it for me; it's remarkably bold and in some unconventional yet very striking patterns. You wouldn't happen to have a close up image of it, wouldja, mate?

It looks terrible up close - i couldnt paint a streight line on the **** bulbus thing.

Edit to clear up bad language.

Love to see the engines on those ISDs please Vykes.

Just some stuff I've been working on the last few nights!

Sure thing Daft Blazer, mate. I took a pair of pictures mostly because the first one felt 'too good' and in a lot of ways, it really was. This morning's lighting condition outside was some of the best I've ever come across. I'll just post up the 'nice' one but I can always post a 'bad' one, just to show the difference in camera light alone.

Aww, that's too bad Biggs, but I still think that it couldn't be that bad. The Mc80 really is a weird thing, full of lines and yet not at the same time, so I don't think it's likely a 'problem' at all. The ship doesn't know what it wants to do.

Bloody great work Steven, those H6's in particular are grand! But all of em are great (the blue stiped Yt2400 comes in at a close second for squadrons). Nice to see a Mk.I assault frigate too. I've seen two of Mel's Dreads in person but no Assault Frigate yet. Mind if I ask, how's the surface texture for those things? Any thoughts on colours to those other HWK's and YV-666's?

Post Scriptum: Also phenomenal work Wes, those E-wings are just glorious and the Assault Gunboats just make me envious. Fantastic work on the whole, but those just want to make my eyes pop out.

Steven's Mk I is a Utar model same as mine above. The Texture is very smooth. Painted up great. Sorry question was for Steven

Vykes, you really did get great light on that photo eh? Makes the engines look flared up.

Totally overcast silver sky, freshly fallen snow, UV index off the charts, and a single piece of white poster board. It was glorious.

Aaah alright so was itthat firm resin then? Gah, resin scares me. No worries, you just managed to post when I was three-quarters done mine and I missed it on first pass :P I'm just trying to get a handle of that material (got something of Mel's headed my way and I'm wondering how much I'll need to prepare and adjust).

Well, I got something....

Not as glamorous as others', but I like the hull white. I wanted to try getting as screen accurate as possible.

Don't mind the Trek ships, they are escorts, and a lot better than what they started out as.

Its firm but easy to trim and sand. So I guess firm to flex but soft. What material did you get your Mel model done in? If it is FUD then all you have to do before paint is scrub any of the white looking areas with a dry toothbrush to remove excess powder, if there is any. You will find this builds up around details usually if you do get any. Second just give her a rinse and wash with dish soap. Remember most of the larger models are hollow so you may need to make sure all the wwater is out. Basecoat and go. Its really a 10 minute process tops.

Looks awesome, may I ask what colour white you used?

Awesome stuff there, Wes. I really do appreciate it! Yep, I got something in FUD so I really wasn't sure what I was getting myself into with a transparent resin. It doesn't sound too bad, no more so than my usual painting prep.

The white is looking good Norsehound. The discolouration looks terrific. All it needs is more Excelsior :P

Alright, on with the paintings! I finished this one up this morning, it's a companion piece to my other CR-90, based on th epattern from one of the Rebels ships.

Indeed. The whole point is getting the paint on it, so if its cleaned and primed properly (but lightly), the underside colour makes no difference - even if that colour is transparent :D
